ESPN Has Gone Too Far - Why Would I Want To Watch Northern Illinois Versus Toledo In 3d?

I thought they went too far when they SUED ohio state to get records of the ncaa investigation while continueing to broadcast ALL the ohio state games.

I thought they went too far when they wouldn't show ohio state girls tournament basketball on my direct tv because they weren't able to extort as much money as they wanted from them. I also wasn't allowed to watch on the computer because I wasn't a subscriber of TW who they were able to extort millions of dollars from.

I have been saying for years the greedy, hate filled, propagandist network will be the ruination of popular sports for average fans. (Remember when boxing used to be popular until any bout that meant something was PPV?)

It's sad too because I started watching when they first came on cable tv and loved all the programming for years. I think the turning point was the influence of Jim Rome and how he popularized the bashing of athletes with his "takes".

Add another reason to the list of why I don't ever watch ESPN....

Seriously, I actually like watching the MAC League, with teams such at Toledo, Central Michigan, Miami (of Ohio), etc. It's good, gritty football. Sure as hell beats watching the SEC or ACC!

It's because of the amount of money paid for the rights deal to have it on ESPN, same with NFL. They have to have a grotesque amount of coverage. ESPN needs to change to just a football network and have someone else step in that has some ounce of integrity to actually be a sports network.

ESPN is the best thing to ever happen to tv.

Anytime I think that it is time to get engaged in social change, I flip on the tube to watch some sports until the feeling passes.

Exactly, the day before the world series started Sports Center lead off with Carson Palmer being traded. The world series is the next day and you lead off with a second string has been being traded from one bad team to another. Stuff like that really degrades the quality of ESPN, but then again they have been going down the drain for a long time.

ESPN is a brilliant scheme. If your conference has an agreement to broadcast games on ESPN affiliated networks, then your conference gets the best coverage during "news" programming and intense promotion.

If you are like the Big East (non-ESPN), ESPN will do whatever it can to ruin you. For example, when rumors of defection came out of the Big East, ESPN did whatever it could to convince an ACC expansion (ESPN affiliated). We're talking about the promise of more money from TV rights, coverage, etc...

ESPN is a sham ... they are only interested in promoting the teams, conferences, and athletes who appear on their network. Except LeBron, who ESPN gladly made a killing off of for "The Decision" (which was ESPN's idea) and then turned around and trashed him to no end.

Could you be more pompous? Not everyone goes to a high profile school that is used to national exposure for their programs. ESPN has been good for the MAC conference and Northern Illinois in particular. You might not want to watch it, but some of us do. So don't watch Tuesday night and shut up about it!

I don't understand some of you. ESPN is a business, which is designed to make money. Why would they provide sports coverage that is not profitable?

Better quality football than Ivy League.

If by "gritty" you mean slower, weaker and with a fraction of the crowd than the SEC, then sure. I'd prefer to watch higher-quality football. If these guys were better, they'd be playing in the SEC or Big XII or Big 10. You obviously go to a MAC school or live in MAC territory.

This is the short list of current or former players from the MAC that have had quite the impact at the next level. Not every great player in the NFL comes from a BCS conference.

As someone who follows NIU football I second that. They have played pretty much whenever ESPN has wanted them to and it has done a lot for exposure to the program. While I give credit to the rise of the Northern program to Coach Novak (and Coach Kill) the exposure they have gotten playing on TV has helped a lot too.
