I don't think anybody else on Letsrun can even do this. I didn't think it could be done.
Christian Hesch could...maybe.

Subway challenge??? 5K and 5 Foot Longs in under an hour?
Wow, you guys are hyping this up way too much. It's a fun story, but ultimately not that difficult of a challenge. I can't believe someone would write a story about this. Keep it on letsrun.com or maybe beermile.com, but that's about it. I would expect any sub-6:30 beer miler would beat this time comfortably. I can tell you that I've eaten 12 McDonald's hamburgers in 8:33, which is more than 6 Big Macs because there is an extra piece of bread every two burgers. I don't expect this would pose any challenge, but honestly, who wants to go run a hard 10k for fun? Not I.

Sorry you feel that way pal, but I think this is challenge was wicked funny.
The number of people posting on this thread shows you are wrong about that.http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=3601167I'm going to call BS in your bogus beer mile time, and your claim to eating 12 McDonald's burgers in 8:33.

Talk is cheap. Naturally you have no interest in doing what you claim to be very easy. Coward.

Calories in 6 Big Macs: 3240
Calories in 12 McDonald's hamburgers: 3000
Weight of 6 Big Macs: ~45 ounces
Weight of 12 McDonald's hamburgers: ~42 ounces

Think it's even possible to eat 5 footlongs? I feel that's substantially more food (if more palatable) as compared to 6 Big Macs.
So I ran a 25 second PR in the 5k yesterday at Cal's Brutus Hamilton Invitational. I think we're about to usher in a new age of thinking in training here ... ;)

The gauntlet has been thrown down and the challenge has been raised. Who has the gumption to take on the Subway Challenge?

OK, should we use my 13-burger split then? I ended up eating 16 of them in one sitting. The 13th burger was finished at 12:32. Not sure if I could have "kicked" if I knew that was going to be my last, but let's play it conservative and say no.
But the point here is not what I personally could do for this challenge, I only use myself as an example. If I could do this, I'm sure there are plenty of faster runners and eaters who could wallop me and this record. And like I said, it's a fun story, but it is being hyped up a little too much for the level of performance it's at.

You're right, I just go around inventing numbers to impress people. Oh, but wait, you don't even know who I am, this board is anonymous, so I'm not even benefiting from these fictitious claims.
I did eat 16 burgers in 27:30(the challenge was how many you can eat in 30 minutes). I have splits for every burger. First one in 21 seconds, 2nd in 25, etc. Got through 12 in 8:33, then it got rough. 13th took 3:58, 14th took 4:47, 15th 5:07, final burger took 5:04.
Don't know my splits for that beer mile, but I'm a 4-teens miler and low-1:50's 800 guy who happens to be able to eat a lot and drink a lot. It's not that outrageous to have a 1:30 differential between your best true mile and your best beer mile. I mean, the WR is 5:10-ish, right? Obviously that guy has a smaller differential than me.
If this becomes an official contest, for record keeping purposes there should be restrictions so we don't end up in a Boston like dilemma with the records. For instance, if one could find a track right behind a McDonald's, would it be considered a restaurant aided course because of the potential to get fresher Big Macs to track? I think there should be a distance limit to how close your track can be to the McDonald's to be a certified world record. And, if the McDonald's is down the street, it would be a essentially a point to point Big Mac run every mile or whenever fresh Macs are needed. I say the McD's can be no closer than a 2 mile radius to the track to gain its official certification. And, it can't be a point to point Big Mac run going down one street. That would be unfair to the Big Mac rabbits who have to make turns in their cars.

It looks like you had a really good race, congratulations.
Then I'm sure you will have no problem beatng Sean's record.
happy beer miler, you've been called on the mat. It's time to put up or shut up. Can you beat the Big Mac WR or not? I think it's not.
No thanks. Eating challenges hurt (Sean I'm sure you'll agree) and I really have no desire to go run a hard 10k right now. This one is all you, Strawberry Canyon TC. My point all along has simply been to keep this in its proper perspective.
I do have another beer mile coming up as the season winds down, I'll let you know how it goes. We're going to record it this time so that I can submit it to beermile.com. Hoping to break 5:40 which would put me up there. Happy eating, drinking, and running all.
One thing is certain, Sean has no intention of reclaiming this record if someone breaks it. Eating for volume after running fairly hard is a lot more excruciating than eating an hour after a workout. If you ever change your mind, let us know. Also there is the WVTC beer mile in August (San Francisco) so you can give J. Charlesworth a run for his money then (5:30 or so). You would surely need to film it to claim it.
Nevertheless, I find it curious that a runner of your ability would be able to eat 12 burgers, though he would shy away from running a hard 10K. Then again a number of our runners would probably take a pass on a beer mile challenge too.
Oh well, happy trails!
