I'm thinking he needed to pay closer attention to what the president said.
I'm thinking he needed to pay closer attention to what the president said.
Why does he sound constipated? Also, why haven't the Republicans offered any ideas in...well, ever?
It was weak, just four points that really didn't offer solutions. And it sounded like he was just reading it directly off a sheet. In his defense, I think the Republicans thought they needed to keep the rebuttal very short if they wanted anyone to hear it at all.
He's no Bobby Jindal!
Absolutely horrible. The Republicans have no credibility on health care. They held the White House for 8 years and never once tried to reform health care to make it affordable for all Americans.
I'm a pretty middle of the road guy. I've supported both sides depending on the issue. But on health care, I think Obama and the Dems have it right (or at least a workable plan given how complex an issue it is).

Sounds like you two really understand how a rebuttal speech works.
Yeah. Silly me for expecting a Republican to actually address the issues raised by the president instead of repeating the same old garbage they'd been saying before.
At least it's now easier for most americans to see they're full of crap and see who's F***ing them in the ass when it comes to their health.
You'd think it would be easier but they'll just go back and listen to Limvaugh and FOX and come back spewing the same old nonsense and lies all over again.

Yeah. Silly you for expecting the Republicans to prepare a well written response in the minute or so between speeches. The president makes his speech, reading every carefully thought out word off of a teleprompter. Anyone who tried to rebut a scripted speech on the spot would just end up looking clumsy. So, and this is the way it has always been, the opposing party prepares its rebuttal in advance, carefully crafting a speech that will anticipate some of Obama's points and provide a counter-argument without knowing what he is going to say. Do you really think the Democrats did things any differently under Bush?
Unfortunately, many Americans like you seem to have no idea how this works, and so take a conservative, safe Republican speech as just another reason to hate Republicans.
Actually, I knew before tonight that the public option was exactly that - an option, and not a mandate for all. You mean Dr. Boustany couldn't access this info? That's one glaring example of how his speech was inaccurate. Not safe. By the way, instead of giving a "Reublican" speech, why not address the problems facing all Americans? I guess that would have been too risky. Silly me for thinking the best interests of all American citizens is what that guy has on his mind. Far more important to give a 'safe' speech and please his constituency - however small it might be.

You're right, the "Republican" speech looks a bit silly after that bipartisan address Obama gave... oh, wait, nevermind. If Obama is going to attack the Republican party (and don't act like he didn't), they have a right to respond.
It is not this man's job to play president and talk to America about its problems (talk, by the way, is cheap), but to inform the nation of the GOP's views on heath reform.
Buddy, it's you who have no idea how this works. The White House releases the text of the President's speech well before delivery so the media can put together articles and analysis for discussion as soon as possible.
The opposition rebuttal is not required to actually rebut, but it's a bit amateur to not find at least one point to pick apart on the merits. Ordinarily this is seen as a lazy and transparent dodge of the issues. Use your own judgment to decide which ideas you like and which you don't, it's ok to like a little bit from both sides - they shouldn't be mutually exclusive.
The POTUS laid out his plan more clearly and tried to counter lies about death panels and other distortions. His focus seemed to be on how the best interests of all Americans can be met. It did not seem to me that his focus was on Repubs. I guess you see things differently.
Don't repubs and their famil members get sick and die and have insurance companies screw their ailing relatives? Why the hell can't they stop with the knee-jerk gumming up of the works?
Gosh, wick, who's the doofus now? Even I was able to see most of the speech hours before it was given. The congressman wasn't just winging this in a couple of minutes. How ignorant can you be, dude? Get therapy.
Boustany didn't have much to say because that is the Republican way. They said absolutely "ZERO" for the last eight years while our system went into near chaos and our insurance premiums doubled (nevermind, the insurance execs got their billion dollar bonuses). Now, in the coming weeks we will learn the real Republican position on this from Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity and that ilk of negativeness. And that position would be? Lies, distortions, exaggerations, fear...we can count on it.
