Why would you rank Jenkins that high?
Do you still consider KK a marathoner? I'd call him "inactive" if not "retired."
Jenkins falls below both Kara Goucher and Desiree Davila who both beat him by over 4 minutes in Berlin. and that was not a bad race as he has not performed much better than that over the last year.
Anyone know what happend to Rohatinskey?

I think it was a bad race since he has run 2:15.
Why would you rank Gabrielson, who hasn't even broken 2:17, that high?
Cabada probably still belongs in some top tens.
You don't have to turn this into guess work. Our sport actually has a stopwatch that makes these decisions. Here is this years best RIGHT NOW. It may change after this fall, but right now this is the list.

and I believe that Cabada could end up on the list but Young has had 2 opportunities and has blown it twice and Carney has NEVER been a top 10 marathoner at years end. We still have 4 months remaining.
Humphrey of Hansons should also be on that list. But Carney belongs somewhere on that list. I'd put him in the same boat as Cabada and Lehumkle.
I'd be curious to see a Top 10 list from the heroic period of American marathoning (pick a year between 1979 and 1982) drawn up at the same point in the year.
Make it a 18-30 month window and you will be on the right track. With maybe some adjustments for weather conditions if your feeling generous.

It's a pretty bad year as far a depth. We've had 49 guys run sub 29 10k's on the track this year and only 14 under 2:20. Heck, Josh Cox is 15th on the US list and he did it en-route to his 50k.
Many years ago there was a guy from San Diego who was one of the better, but definitely not the best, runners from the area. While in college at UCLA he ran 28:53 on the track and 2:14 in the marathon. At the time his marathon time wasn't seen as an exceptional performance. It was a very good performance but right in line with his 10k time. If he was running in 2009 his 10k time would rank 35th on the US list but his marathon time would put him 4th!
Seems like there is a problem with the way our marathoners are training now or that, with the exception of Hall, that the bar hasn't been raised yet like it has been in the track events.
Forgot to add that hopefully this changes with the fall marathons coming up.

Even with your generous window, still no Carney.
2:16:20 is equal to a 29:03 10k which is roughly the 50th fastest time by a US runner this year. How can only 11 guys in the entire country have run an equivalent marathon time?
I thought the marathon was the glamor event? Does running a good marathon only matter to the top few guys?

Its amazing to me that despite coming to this site numerous time per day, I have never heard of three of these guys; Christopher Rabbe, Nicolas Arciniaga, and Michael Reneau? I can't imagine this would be the case with the 5K/10K or any other running track event for that matter if we looked at a top 10.
I guess it shows that while we still are far removed from the depth of the 1970s, there are a still a number of guys out there training for the marathon who remain relatively anonymous. Not big names in HS/NCAA, and unlikely to be world player, but hang in there nonetheless. BRAVO!!!!
