Take a look at this video....at 2 minutes and 10 sec's into the film....at this angle Rodriguez seems to have the lane?....and Burka may have fell into Rodriguez out of fatigue and takes a fall...maybe?

She was DQ'd for for stepping out of the track.
END OF THREAD.
Start viewing at 2:30, Burka gets bumped from behind by Rodriquez regardless of the "angle".

i'm pretty sure you don't get DQ'd for taking a step off of the track.
if i remember correctly, this happened in the mens 800?
it matters how many steps you took in a row off of the track, right?
the ethopians must not mess with each other during runs. it looked like rodriguez pulled the classic hit the elbow on the back swing trick. i never had a teammate fall during a run when i did this, or when someone else did it to me. rodriguez was trying to lighten the mood, burka just didn't get the joke.
looks like to me Burka was giving up the lane and then decided to change her mine...looks like to me she was falling first then Rodriguez reached out to help balance her but it was to late...I dont know but at this angle Rodriguez had the space until burka move back in....after watching it...to me there should not of been DQ...and Burka caused Rodriguez to bumped off the track?
if that's true...well burka's fall caused it....Rodriguez should not of been DQ....look I am big Shannon and Anna fan...but that angles shows me Rodriquez didnt nothing wrong and was very sorry afterwards....but she had nothing to be sorry about...Burka was falling before the contact

Wow Moogle, you come off like a really great person.
Here is the rule:
4. If an athlete is pushed or forced by another person to run outside his
lane, and if no material advantage is gained, the athlete shall not be
disqualified.
If an athlete either:
(a) runs outside his lane in the straight, and no material advantage
is gained or
(b) runs outside the outer line of his lane on the bend, with no
material advantage thereby being gained,
and no other athlete is obstructed then he shall likewise not be
disqualified.
Can anybody argue that Rodriguez gained an advantage by stepping inside the kerbing? (as the IAAF spells it)If you were leading a 1500m, all alone, with 250m to go, would you think it advantageous to step inside the kerb?
Maybe I just am not creative, but I can't think how that would be advantageous.
So, Rod. should not have been DQed for stepping inside the kerb, especially on a straight.
Maybe for causing the ruckus, but not for stepping in. If the Ethiopian was responsible for the contact, then she should be DQed for causing Rod a disadvantage.
Am I wrong Dude?
Yes you're wrong. She was DQ'd for creating the situation in the first place - poor judgement. She thought that she had enough room to move through, but in fact didn't (see Rowbury comment). She stepped off the track as she had nowhere else to go - her fault. She interfered with an athlete in front of her in the same lane. It's a judgement call (as most of these situations are) - people have to stop seeing these things in terms of absolutes, every situation is different. They made the right call - even if she was remorseful. She should have waited until an opening developed later on - assuming that Burka would actually slow down (complete conjecture on anyone's part), she might also have responded (like Mulaudzi) to any accelerations in the last 200m. Who knows, and it's a rather moot point. Rodruigez took Burka out (she didn't just fall on her own volition) and she had to be punished for it. See the reaction of her Spanish teammate after the race - she yells at her that it was her fault (then Rodruigez atarts to cry).
So it's okay for a runner to run in the MIDDLE of Lane 1?
Shades of Zola Budd....actually, a very similar scenario to that race.
You always take a huge risk passing on the curb...especially when the person you're passing is running within lane 1. There's no doubt that Rodriguez got her forearm in there and tried to force her way through. I don't think she was at all expecting Burka to go down - a bit of pushing is expected, but not from there when you're in lane 1. I suspect that the size difference, plus the shock of it, caused her to go down. There's no way you can argue that Rodriguez didn't cause the fall. It was the push that she was DQ'ed for, not the stepping off the track. As the rule states, you don't get disqualified for stepping off the track unless it's seen as gaining an advantage. There's almost never an advantage to stepping off the track and then back on again. In fact, you can fall to the infield and get back up and be totally fine - see Viren '72.

You're wrong, AND you're a dick.
its not so much that she caused the initial contact. after burka triped it looked like she pushed her in the back as she was stumbling ... I think burka would not have gone down after the initial contact.
i am sure that burka would have finished 1-4 in that final. but she was not looking good at that point. this is a good lesson for her and other runners.
