Maine - Riley Masters 3:56.25
Dempsey's (University of Washington indoor) facility record is 3:54.52 by Chris Solinsky @ the Husky Classic '11 (2/12/2011).
I'm guessing that's the best on Washington soil, since there aren't any major outdoor meets in the state these days.

Wyoming: 4:14.94, Doug Padilla, 1979
Passing along Tabor Stevens of Adams State running 4:01.27 to break the record in Colorado on April 17, 2015.
At the University of Wyoming, the indoor facility record for the mile is 4:14.94, set by Doug Padilla from BYU in 1979. There has to be faster, but I can't find one. I did call Tim Harkens, the sports information director at Wyoming, to see if they had anyone faster. By the time Wyoming -- elevation 7,220 feet -- got an outdoor track, collegiate athletes were no longer running the mile outdoors. If anyone has someone faster, I'd love to know.
It's startling how old most of those records are.
fewer meets with the mile as the 1500 takes over (&1600 at HS level)
Some corrections that stood out to me just from passing over Malmo's list:
Alaskan soil record: Jack Bolas, 3:58.3i, 2013
Alaskan native record: Trevor Dunbar, 3:57.19
Also if we're just counting runs by natives of the state, not just on-soil races then wouldn't Oregon's record be Rupp's 3:50.92 from indoors back in 2013?

Nice list, but it left out 2 Maine runners, Riley Masters (3:56.15) and Will Geoghegan (3:57.53). Source: http://mainerunning.weebly.com/mile.html
Yep, 3:57.23A, Doug Padilla USA, 21.05.1983 in Provo, UT- #2391 on list at http://www.alltime-athletics.com/m_mileok.htm as of 17 August 2016
...and almost 10 years later i come and reply!! the record now is sub four, as are all 50 states. we waited on Alaska until Ben Blankenship and his pony tail came along and ran 3:57! wow ten years gone by and now the elusive sub 4 minute mile barrier is broken in all 50 of our states. some of the records on this list are way out of date as well. then again i say a third time, it is a decade later! Webb has the fastest for my state- South Carolina. 35seven. (My seven key is broken).
You may have replaced your keyboard by now, but just press the 6 and 8 simultaneously for 5 to 10 seconds and it should average out to make a 7. If that doesn't work, then your keyboard is broken and you should replace it.
Isn’t the original list up to date on this site? I am way more interested in the list of sub 4 runners by state than where they ran it. Was it ever answered where runners are listed if they moved around or were transplants like in the case of some of our former Kenyans in the Army? Thanks for anybody following up. I love the mile and the mystique of breaking 4 minutes.
