Liz was sick. Unbelievable talent. I remember watching her at the CT state meet and she would just destroy people.
She did run at Central and as a freshman or sophomore was undefeated in Cross Country (beating Amy Rudolph, who was the reigning NCAA 1500 Champ and who would ultimately become an NCAA Cross Champ, I believe). Then she didn't run Regionals so she never went to the Big Dance.
Her personal coach, Norm Higgins, completely screwed her up. She was, at the time (mid 90s) estranged from her family and really only listened to Norm. Her HS coach, Jan Merrill, was an Olympic finalist herself in the 1500 and multiple American Record holder, and strangely enough, was also coached by Norm.
I remember many years back wondering what happened to her and looked it up. She became a boxer of all things. Just re-googled her now, and check out this link:
Stick to the thread.........she ran in college.

Patti Dillon didn't start running until she was 23.
Jen Toomey didn't run at all until her mid 20s.
Jack Foster ran a 2:11 master's world record and didn't start running until he was 33.

About 75% of the great African runners throughout history, take your pick and I guess race distance would make a difference too!
bradsher wilkins from NC: 2x foot locker south regional champ; ran @4:09(?) in 11th grade; dad was a sub-4 miler back in the day. decided to go to NC state, then didn't run track his sr. year of HS. . . i don't think he ever ran at NCSU. and that was it....
I want to second Dean K. I ran one of the 55/50/50 marathons with him and he smoked me over the last 400 meters. I have never seen anyone close so quickly...
Did Cathy O'Brien run in college? If not, two Olympic Marathon Teams is nothing to sneeze at.
michael wardian?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
