Come on, you don't go through a 5K in 14:10 and then acutely develop ill effects of food poisoning. The guy was getting dropped at the hill and then claims food poisoning started to get the better of him-OK.

No.
He probably was recovering, but not all the way there yet.
BTW 14:10 is over a minute slower than his 5K PR. Tempo pace.
Apparently, he had food poisoning on Thursday.
Obviously you don't develop it during the race, but it can leave you feeling weak as hell, so maybe he just couldn't keep up after a while.

Obviously you've never had food poisoning or an upset digestive tract before. As they say "shit happens!"

What??!? I am pretty sure Webb has NOT run under 13:10. In fact, I KNOW his PR for the 5k is 13:46! 14:10-13:46= 24sec. Also, that 13:46 was on a track! Not in central park. He was probably close to maxing out through the 5k and couldn't handle the pace anymore.

You're sure about that?

just to end this part of the discussion, from iaaf.org:
Alan Webb

yeah, I didn't know is 5k pr but I was really doubting that statement... the shit people say in here, talking out their asses...
I think it's a very real possibility that he dropped because he was 100% but thats not to say it takes anything away from the fact that he just could not hang.
No, I don't think Webb was faking it, but either way I did not expect much from Webb when it was announced that Ritz was injured. I think that Ritz would've brought out the best in Webb (if healthy) and vice versa. When Ritz was asked last year who his greatest rival was, he surprisingly said Webb. I think it's mutual too, judging from the way that Webb seemed to slow down at the Pre 2 miler last year just when Ritz blew by him.
8K would've been the perfect distance for them to race each other and possibly break a record in the process...hopefully it will get to happen one day.

I KNOW you are wrong, because I watched him run 13:10 in Berlin in 2005. Did you just pull that time out of your ass? I am pretty sure that he has the fastest 5k PR in that field.
When you're sick, you can probably run some of a race, just not the whole thing. I've run a 5k when sick and gone through two miles feeling fine before being reduced to a walk-jog in the last mile.
its an 8k road race in March....who cares?
I think he has other goals for 2008....
I think that's an old 5k PR of Webb's from the Penn Relays. As you and others have pointed out, he has gone much faster now.
yes, yes...if we say something that means its true.
all we have to do is say it here, and reality warps around our thoughts like we were god. yes.
and Alan Webb never ran faster than 13:46. And that makes it so.
He was absolutely definitely not faking it. You people...jeez.
