The start is downhill and the weather is decent. I would think to completely optimize your time at Boston, you'd have to run positive splits.

2:06 pace...some of those guys are gonna be hurtin' in a bit. Hope Culpepper's ready for that pace.
Looks like we are going to see a war of attrition as it were.
meb in second...looks great field spreading out a bit. culp second from last in lead pack

For Sell too. Are they hazing each other?
Don't worry, we'll find something else about him not to like, even if he wins! Pack is stringing out a bit at just over 44 minutes. Meb in second, Culp near the back 3-5 seconds back.
My guess is these guys are all feeling great with the conditions. This is potentially a once in a lifetime opportunity to blast one.

Meb has several in the 2:09-2:10 range, so I don't think that he's going to maintain this pace. They're running ~2:07 pace, which is pr range for most of these guys.
Thats what is called taking a shot. One of these guys will probably maintain it and run 2:07 and win, so if you want to win, this is the gamble you take.

I'm worried about Culpepper, he doesn't look labored, but he's not in a good position either.
Not looking labored is the key at this point. Still way too early to be concerned with specific positioning.
What's wrong with Negussie?
looks like Culpeper is off the pack only Meb going with the surges...

Ndeti ran a negative split when he set the course record.
hmm, yes i forgot that Boston is a downhill course and if they have a little tailwind 2:07 pace isn't that quick atleast for low 27min guys like Meb or Maiyo and 2:10 ok for Gilmore.
Guess we will find out. He is a very solid runner looking for a breakout race. This could be it but I would tend to think that is over his head.
Who is doing the surging? They're not even at the 10 mile mark yet....

if you want to run 2:10 you have to go pretty fast. this is faster than they have gone before, maybe today is the day the hold it. both taking a shot, i love it, even if it doesnt work.[quote]Hornissimo wrote:
Pack has broken up some more, Mayo pushing, Mega, Meb and Culp in a second pack about 15 sec or so back...A bit early, but Meb in second in a pack of 3.
Meb looks great. Maiyo looks really relaxed too.
Maiyo in the lead weaving back and forth across the street for no apparent reason. Meb stalking him in second. Culp still in it.
kefl is playing follow the leader...doing the same thing as the kenyan.
