-CLASSIC!!! welcome to the toolshed that is letsrun.com!
Hahaha.
Seems like this should be an annual event hosted by David. Maybe when he retires.
This was painful to read today.
So sad.
RIP to a legend

Wejo, I think this thread has earned itself a link on the frontpage.
I never knew of this downhill mile until now. No one else can believe it but somehow I didn't know it or put two and two together that it was David Torrence. I would have liked him even more. David was always smiling and wasn't afraid to speak his mind. He'll be missed.

read this thread years ago and have been a big fan ever since...
I would constantly refer to him as big wave dave on his social media and he'd always favorite it... UGH this just sucks. honestly, good guy. I'll be really interested in seeing what the autopsy has to say. really great guy...
shit man... life isn't fair
Run in peace
Sad to hear the news. RIP David.
I remember reading this thread when it first began, although hard to believe that was 12 years ago. Love the passion of a runner just doing something that he loved. His friends yelling out the car windows are so genuinely excited for their buddy.
Great to see the original video still online (see links on page 11). Rereading the thread, it was interesting to read the questions about how and where to host the video. I read that wondering why didn't they just upload it to YouTube, then realized that back in 2005, YouTube was just starting out, so few had probably heard of it. I also was also amused by the poster who asked whether the video could be broken up into 1:00 sections for those who would need to download it using a dial-up connection. Ah, the good old days.

You said it. I can't believe I had never read it. I just watched all 3 videos. That first video made me smile the entire time. Reminded me what we all love so much about this sport.
RIP- David.
Man, this was ages ago. What great memories. I was in high school for this. What a freaking legend.
RIP, man.

Too bad you probably missed DT's 1600 time trial that he mentioned in the first post and had a link to on page 7. That link no longer works, but I still remember it well. It was impressive as hell to see a kid go out and run a 4:04 time trial like it was an everyday thing.
I just saw this news from usatf and immediately came here to find this thread. It really inspired me back in the day when I was only a 4:22 miler. Thanks for the motivation buddy.
