hey, even Bekele's records will be broken someday, someone will win NCAAXC's and get beat later in the year and get bashed on boards, someone will win the high school nationals... It's really not about your time. Although it is nice to say "I've broken 15 or 14 or 13 in the 5k",
1) there is always going to be someone better
2) If you work hard and smart, you will improve
These are two facts of our sport.
This is why when someone on the boards (something that could be used to create a closer and friendlier community in the running scene) bashes on people that are better than them, that have no respect, that criticize moves, tactics, coaches, workouts, AND equally shut down and demoralize slower runners for asking questions to gain knowledge to help themselves improve... it just pisses me off. Granted, I'm not losing sleep over any of this, and laugh it off mostly, but the cheap-shots taken far outnumber the constructive criticism and supportive compliments, and it can wear you a little thin if you let it bother you.
It's like, if you can't be nasty on the track, you might as well be nasty on the boards.
