Running my third 5k time trial of quarantine in two weeks and hoping to break my PR of 15:14 as a 21 y/o college runner as a 29 y/o. Previous TT were 15:25 and 15:19. I have good natural speed but my training is more strength based as I was originally training for a HM this spring compared to college where the 1500 was my main event. Have been running 70-75 mpw with a mix of tempos, long intervals, and the occasional speed workout.
I'll be running with a training partner and we have been sharing the pace every 800m. He ran 15:27 in the first TT but hit the wall this week and ran 15:37. Any thoughts on pacing strategy, or training for the next two weeks?
Splits from previous races are below. The TLDR is fading in the second half before a strong last 600m. Second race I went out much more a aggressively, and that is where most of the improvement came from.
