It tells you something when people use non-scientific, non-standard terms to try to relabel the disease. What's the motivation? (We all know, you don't need to answer.)
1. It's more accurate (location of origin)
2. We don't use scientific terms for a lot of things (example: do I have a "Canis familiaris" or a "dog"...)
3. People using just "coronavirus" are in some ways being less accurate
4. Arguably, we're not "relabeling" this virus; everyone (including the left wing media (CNN, etc)) had been calling it the Wuhan/Chinese virus from the beginning. It is actually "Covid-19" which is the relabel.
Eric - but just go ahead and keep assuming my motivations and my intents - it got you Trump the first time...
Naming viruses after geographic location is not the custom. It was the 'Spanish Flu' because they were the ones to identify it, but at that time there was no understanding of the DNA/RNA, no electron microscope identification of it having crown shape.
Grow up. Covid-19 is not a re-label...it is the label . It provides clarity and distinction.
This is not analogous to 'chinese', 'greek' or 'mexican' food, those terms are accurate identifications of the preferences and taste of certain demographics. A choice.
No racial group has a preference or choice for Covid-19. Neither is there a preference from the virus for certain races. It is wrong even to speculate on ACE II receptors in racial groups, because Italy and Spain are outnumbering by far per capita the rate of infection and in absolute terms the deaths than china.
So where is the preference and what should we call it based on that.
I cannot believe the stupidity of racist logic. No, I can actually. It is the reason it can be debunked so easily.
Your president's refusal to accept the threat to the health of his citizens he is supposed to protect, his nationalistic failed approach to 'making our own tests' amongst others is what now makes this equally an 'American virus' as much as it is a 'Chinese virus'.
And now he wants to take the credit for action, with his hand in the pocket of his corporate buddies who will come to his rescue.
Trump..."I thank Roche and Therm Fisher, wonderful companies, great companies".
Well , well...Roche is Swiss and Thermo is american but acquired Qiagen Diagnsotics, a German company on 3rd March 2020 and now it will roll out millions of tests..so much for nationalism hey.
Seems just like you ended the WWII with German exiles building you a nuclear bomb.
But I digress.
On the Thermo Fisher thanking, think of this. Trump is heavily invested in Thermo. They bought Qiagen on 3rd March (this was post the failure of the US test kits), the CEO met with Pence etc around 5th/6th. They were thanked by Trump on 12th March. They went ex dividend on 13th March.
Rather than tackling the crisis for the benefit of his people, it seems he is looking at ways how that can line his pocket.
You put him there. You gave him the power when you knew what his character and history and competence was.
