Agreed 100% the data isn't solid.
Someone on here directed me to this site:
I assumed with so few tests out there that everyone testing for this would be positive but it looks like 90% of people who take the test don't test positive.
Not that it means this isn't something to be serious about but just how bad the data is.
Each state needs to be encouraged to report its numbers.

I think a major issue is that there is uncertainty with the numbers due to lack of test capability. But that might be changing within the week, according to info from this interview:

Almost the same experience I had, but in mid-February. Feel fine now. Over 1/2 of my social circle had the cough. No one is sick now.
I have had a dry cough, runny nose, and headache for 3 days. No fever. I doubt it’s Corona. My wife had a fever and cough and my son has a fever and a cough ?.
Whatever it is it’s not bad enough to call in sick at work.
An old friend of mine died is Seattle from the virus last week.
Not someone I was close to.
My husband had almost the same experience beginning of January. Took forever for it to go away but was never severe enough to really impact daily life. Went to the doctor because it wouldn't clear up completely, in particular the cough and lung issues. Tested negative for the flu. Our doctor admitted to being a bit baffled, labeled it a generic virus, and sent him home. Probably took about 3 weeks for it to finally vanish. He is a first responder so he is exposed to all kinds of crap and this definitely circulated around the fire house. Oddly enough I never got it but he is hyper vigilant about cleaning and disinfecting due to his job so who knows.
I think it's important to point out that just because you were sick at some point in the past few months doesn't mean you had Coronavirus. So it's pretty goofy to say "I was sick in February with something that wasn't the flu, therefore Coronavirus is no big deal".

That’s true, but how can we say it wasn’t? Do we really even know when this actually started or if it was around prior to the cases confirmed?
I had the exact same experiences as some of the other posters above. Negative flu but fever/cough in January and the doctor said it must be some other virus. I was a bit baffled that it wasn’t flu (and it definitely wasn’t a cold as I did not have upper respiratory symptoms). Either way it passed and I was fine, I just wonder if maybe it could have been? I do think people are panicking a bit more than they need to given than most people will have mild symptoms if they even do get it.
If and when i get tested positive for antibodies, I will change my handle to Seattle Covid19. I have had many different flus, colds and bronchial infections over the years, and this one was different. The symptoms match covid to a "T", but obviously this is only a hypothetical at this stage. What is clear is that this thing is extremely contagious and has been in Seattle for at least 8-9 weeks.
If the numbers level out in the next few weeks, my money is that Seattle has peaked the infection curve already. As it is, cumulative fatality growth is linear right now, not logarithmic as you would expect by a breakout. In the same time frame that Seattle area fatalities have reached 43, Italy has reached 349.

I'm no stranger to respiratory (upper and lower) infections. I've fought them for decades. But last fall around Thanksgiving I caught a bug that I couldn't shake until after the New Year.
I was drowning in phlegm. Never had something like this happen in my entire life. After recovery not much was thought of it by me until the Corona virus reared it's ugly head and made me wonder if I hand't already experienced it?
Could I have?
Thoughts.
I have coughed a little the past week or so, and I maaaaayyy have a fever.
I have not been sick in a decade and have lived everywhere.
Obviously not going for a test unless it gets bad.
So minor I can hardly tell and maybe would not have acknowledged were this not on all the media.
I know a nurse and 5 mds who has it. They have experienced symptoms from just sneezing a lot to ache in all their muscles and short breath. Nothing to serious. But they are all for the measures taken in Norway. I don't know a single person against closing schools and such. Else our health care would collapse. We got enough beds for everyone if we let is spread slowly

I dont think most, if any, of the posters on this thread are saying Coronavirus is no big deal. I know that was not my intent is sharing. I still do find it interesting that so many people had symptoms weirdly similar to Coronavirus before it became a thing. I appreciate people sharing and this thread - it is interesting and on topic without all of the extremists showing up and drowning out a group of normal conversations.
I’m pretty sure I’m infected...here’s why.
First, went to Costa Zika a couple weeks ago for a bachelor party. It was intense(duh) and I came home pretty exhausted and with a run of the mill cold.
About 12 days later I got a low fever, dry cough and felt really achy.
My brother and his family flew into town that same day(just last Thursday) and of course being a trooper I had to drink all night with them.
The next day(Friday) I felt slightly worse; very lethargic, achy, and dry cough was there. Literally no runny nose or phlegm.
By Saturday, I was on the mend and my wife was starting to go downhill. Saturday night her fever hit 102.
Sunday, she felt awful and my daughter was at a 101. We drove to a 24/7 urgent care that was “closed”. Then, spent 3 hours waiting for a teledoc to let us know how to get a test.
Doc told us that unless we had dangerous respiratory stress we weren’t to go anywhere and just stay home. Despite the fact that we had interacted with folks on Thursday(my bro who had flown across the country to see us) they aren’t testing us.
So, this leads us to believe that there’s still no tests and that the number of folks impacted by this disease is scores higher than reported.
For me personally, this was pretty damn mild. But my fear is that seniors who don’t have strong respiratory systems could be in a world of danger. Hope things get better!
Oh, PS...my sister in law(who visited w my brother) now has it too. She was also told by the great state of Maryland not to get tested too.
Will there ever be tests??
I third these symptoms. I never got tested, so can't confirm it was COVID. It was like the flu at first, with a fever for about 4 days. I never had a fever last that long. Night sweats were awful. Then came the annoying coughing fits, with mucous coming up, feeling like it came from inside my lungs. I tried to run, but I quickly got out of breath. It was only hard to breath when attempting to run. The whole experience lasted about 2 weeks. Never been sick that long before. Never went to visit a doctor. Just treated it with OTC medicines and rest. Rest was easy. It really drained my energy, to the point where there were days that I slept almost every minute. This all happened prior to learning about COVID. I'm back to being completely healthy, with no long-lasting effects, other than missing two weeks of training. But that's OK, because the entire track season has been cancelled now.
I had the flu two weeks ago. My doc said he often does not test for flu as often you have the flu but come back negative with the test.
Anyone know what the false negative ratio for the flu and Corona are? Rapid test for flu can be like 50% I believe.
Roughly 9/10 people testing for corona now are coming back negative according to this site
https://covidtracking.com/data/Not sure what that means until we know false negative ratio of test.

If corona has been in Seattle for months and not killed that many people that would be great news but then how would you explain what is happening inItaly?
Seems like people could have had another illness in February.
Hope you get better. Couldn’t you all have the flu as well? Flu is probably more common now but not sure of that as I think it is end of flu season
Well, the average age of persons dying from COVID-19 in Italy is over 80 years old. I don't know the statistics of people dying in Seattle, but I would assume a larger portion of elderly people affected in Italy would be the main cause. Hopefully, that is the case.
