I’m not a fan because he’s linked to a coach who’s a ruthless bully and cheat and Rupp’s body language always appeared to be hiding something during interviews. What other pro runners defend him? I will say his decision to move to Mike Smith as a coach was a good one and should help his image. Rupp’s demeanor was different in a good way in post trials interview. Then again he skipped the awards which reinforces the negative stereotypes.
One could argue that Rupp has EVEN MORE admirable personality traits than the likes of Rogers and Prefontaine because of his ability to maintain composure under unrelenting hate. In spite of all the nasty sentiments that have been thrown his way for the last 15 years, he STILL has performed well. He did not let it get to his head. THAT is more baller than being worshipped like Pre. Or having the underdog story like Brian Ward. Yawn. If you want to watch campy underdog stories, go watch the mighty ducks.
Mo on the other hand, lashed out once people started putting him under the microscope. Most people would crack under social scrutiny.
Even in high school people would shout these weird animal sounds near galen at the starting line, trying to get into his head. Then he would F ing smoke them. This whole fauble thing aint nothin new. Hahah, fauble looking over at Rupp at the starting line, like Greta Thernburg "How dare you!" Again, got Fing smoked!
No, it is more admirable and bold to be the best and defend it, than to be an underdog.
