Maybe he thinks most runners are college-educated, and statistically, those people are less likely to support that guy (the one who says the virus cases could soon go down to zero, by a miracle).

Rupp is a great runner. He's like a well engineered toaster oven. Does the job. Holds up well. Not that interesting to listen to. Doesn't inspire anybody to do anything. Just.. works.
Speak for yourself, Mr. Know It All. Rupp doesn't inspire YOU to do anything. That's fine. But you cannot speak for humanity.
Walmsley does not inspire me to do anything. But I won't make any assumption about other people.

It’s weird, in this thread Rupp and his glory hunting supporters don’t know what WS100 is but in the ‘Could Rupp Beat Walmsley at Western States 100 Mile’ thread the same basement dwellers are detailing exactly how and why Rupp could do it???
Unfortunately, like me, we try making sense on these boards and are often left even more confused. It's a common theme here..
A few things you nitwits need to consider:
1. Rupp almost certainly knows what the Western States 100 is. I cannot imagine he is so insulated from life to not even know trivia about the sport he has spent his whole life pursuing. It would be like saying Tom Brady has never heard of the Canadian Football League. Various running media has been writing about Western States for at least 30 years. I can recall reading about it in Runner's World or Running Times as far back as at least the early 90's.
2. Your allegations that "his glory hunting supporters don’t know what WS100 is" is at best, a straw man and more likely, just a flat out lie. Please link to the posts that support your claim. Otherwise, just concede that Rupp's glory hunting supporters (whatever that means) probably actually do know what the Western States 100 is.
3. Rupp probably hasn't heard of the Warm Up Columbus Marathon either, but he could probably win it. Not knowing about a race doesn't preclude one from being able to win it if one were to learn about it an enter it. Nor does it preclude people speculating on if he could win it.
4. There is nothing wrong with living in a basement. It's not my bag, but if someone's lifestyle choice is to live in a basement, why would that be a basis for scorn? Heck I knew a kid in high school who lived in house that had a 2400 sq ft basement. It was like a castle down there, had it's own kitchenette and French doors leading out to the backyard pool. Probably is way nier than whatever 1 bedroom hovel you are living in, anyway.
Hope that helps with your confusion issues. If not, see a doctor - there are medications you can get.
Lol..thanks keyboard gangsta..I'll be sure to check my dosage tonight..
You didn’t read the thread but took all the time to type this???
:-)
1. Of course he knows, that’s what I’m arguing. Read the thread.
2. I don’t need to concede that rupp fans have heard of western states, I am arguing that they have. Read the thread, for some reason they are saying no ones heard of it.
3. You are of course correct on all counts here.
4. Whatever, I took the username from a comment in another thread as I thought it was a hilarious retort and seems to touch a nerve with most posters on here, probably because they live in their mothers basement have not travelled internationally. That’s fine too though. Your friends parents house sounds really nice.
Ps. Not at all relevant but I read your comment whilst sipping a glass of red wine in a candle lit bath, post-run. After reading I sank further into the soothing hot water with a happy contended smile on my face. Thank you.

Walmsley goes on the offensive:
I would say me and most other people aren’t rooting for Galen.
There’s no doubt that he’s an extremely talented, extremely hardworking athlete. One of the most amazing things about him, especially with recent stuff, is that he shows up on race day and he gets the job done and executes his best race plan. He’s a great competitor. Not necessarily rooting for him.
Will Rupp rise to this?
Who would win a fistfight between Jim and Galen?
https://slate.com/culture/2020/03/jim-walmsley-olympic-marathon-trial-results-interview.html
Who?
When it comes to Jim Walmsley and Galen Rupp racing Western States, it's like that intoxicated make believe conversation around a camp fire that will likely never play out in reality but it's fun to disagree or prove your thoughts to the next guy or gal..
Galen Rupp is absolutely one of the greatest american born runners we've ever had. Hearing from a few competitors of his going back to his college days, there was a weird energy that many didn't like even 10-12 years ago. This is nothing new, and while many pro's won't say it, they'll allude to it via social media, make hashtags over it, knowing damn well who they're referring to. So Walmsley said he wasn't rooting for him, and this whole thread has been a hilarious train wreck ever since.
It sounds like Walmsley will make another go @ a road marathon in the near future, wouldn't be surprised if he is at the Trials in 2024. Of course he isn't Rupp, but he's def a 2:10 guy. I refuse to believe Walmsley isn't a 2:10 guy with some more experience.
I still would love to see more sub 2:15 guys tackle some ultra's, not just flat road ultras, but mix it up on the trails and continue to challenge the status quo this decade.
