I don't see how sitting on the ground takes cajunas but he will be losing there so probably not
The other person owning the line in that photo is Riley

Loved the interview. I know Rupp is a polarizing figure and the Alberto cloud will probably never completely go away, but I am 100% behind him heading into Tokyo. I think if he is healthy he contends for a medal.
Are there any non-Kenyan or Ethiopian runners with better cred than Rupp? I would think both those countries will have 3 better than him but not sure about others.
Everyone one came in with faster PRs last year but Rupp snagged a medal. Come Olympics Rupp knows how to compete. If he’s healthy I’m picking him for top 5 with a chance to snag another medal
Couldn’t agree more. I was never a fan of his.. but don’t really get all the hate.
No denying it at this point. The mans an all time great. And he’s probably the only marathoner, male or female, on our team who might bring home some hardware.
The classic indicator of Mile potential is 10x400 at race pace.
Galen claims he ran 20x400 in 60. If that's true, he's in well under 4:00 shape while simultaneously running an effortless 2:09 on a hilly course in brutal wind.
If that were the Berlin course, with pacers and Kipchoge in front of him, tell me he wouldn't have run 2:04.
Men with his credentials aren't just 2:06 guys. Galen knows that. He knows he's capable of just about anything it takes to win a medal, regardless of his official PR. He will be a contender regardless of what the Rift Valley produces this cycle.
This "cajuna": is there some way I can get some of those?
It's nice that Galen won but I guess I just think it's unfortunate that the state of men's elite distance running is so bad right now, a healthy Ryan Hall in his prime would obliterate everyone other than Galen yesterday, too bad their peaks couldn't have been at the same point as that would be legit

Hall had his time. And he had some good performances. But his retirement doesn't mean that the state of things right now is "so bad." Frankly, its about as good its been since the 80s.
A 2:07, and two 2:09 guys, all favorites for the team were beaten yesterday. That's a sign of how strong things are. Abdi and Riley's performances yesterday were worth a few minutes in a flat major marathon.
We're sending Galen, one of our all time bests, and two guys who ran 2:08 performances, and beat some of our known best. Things are looking good.
Galen will be the only medal threat on the men's side. But I could see all three in the top 10. And I could see Riley, Ward, and Fauble being a very solid future, along with Galen still having a few years of top performances.
Things are good.

What he said. Three things to keep in mind about Rupp: (1) he won a bronze medal in his second marathon ever; (2) that medal came after he doubled at that year's Olympics, finishing fifth in the 10,000; and (3) he has never finished worse than fifth in a marathon (excluding his two DNFs, but even if you include them that's a pretty strong record).
Rupp is not on the same level as Kipchoge or Bekele, but quite frankly few marathoners are. I think worst case scenario he finishes top 10 in Tokyo; heck, Ward finished sixth in the 2016 Olympic marathon...

Wow so badass to sit on the ground, I suppose it might have been impressive or something if he was running against anyone remotely in his class
That says more about others than GR himself
I will say there is a lot of nerves and anticipation in that photo. Rupp is so calm and focused like he’s tired of waiting and he already knows how this plays out. That kind of quite confidence along with his front running definitely messed with a lot of people’s heads yesterday.

THIS. Jogging a 2:09 on that course and toying with the field was crazy to watch, but not surprising. Galen routinely beats 2:04-2:05 guys like it’s his job - because it is. Of course he’s not Kipchoge but he will be contending for silver or bronze.
I wish he would race a fast course in prime fitness to get the AR and also take down Ryan Hall’s wind tunnel 2:04, but it’s obviously not important to him. Global medals are the name of the game.
Matt Carpenter would do the same! It saves your legs.

Nah, lets just root for a good run and wish him the best.

This. So confident. Even when Galen used to run well, people would fault him for not having the personality or the cojones of someone like steve prefontaine.
And now, Galen does BOTH. And they are still complaining. This power move was not only a strong message to the other little boys in the field, it was entertaining as hell.
Bravo

Yeah, and he turned 18, almost 16 years ago. He's been a man exactly that long.
I just see it as Rupp and the rest are JAGs to put it in other sports terms, Hall and Meb weren't JAGs. There is one elite men's distance runner in the US right now, only one that won't get obliterated on the world stage, 2:09 isn't competitive at the world level.
