I'm not saying that the Olympics will be touched by coronavirus, but just for fun, if the Games were moved to somewhere else …
What place/s do you think could pull it off with a few months' warning?

I doubt they have a backup plan. It would get canceled.
That would actually really suck if that happened for everyone who qualified this year. I mean I get no one wants to get coronavirus, but some people may not get another chance. Hoping it doesn’t get cancelled!
Why do people keep asking about moving the Olympics? Track & Field fans really do live in a bubble. You do realize that there are more events than just track right? They need more venues than just 1 stadium. Organizing all the venues needed for all the events in this short amount of time would be impossible for anyone. They couldn't even revamp the venues in Rio in time. If for some strange reason it could not be in Tokyo, it would have to be canceled. So far Japan has had 1 death and people are again acting like it's the plague over there. I assume most of these morons are geographically challenged and think Japan and China are the same place.
It's not going anywhere.
It will be fine.
Relax.

Calm down dude, nobody implied other sports don't exist.
Los Angeles for instance has enough venues to host every Olympic sport with zero notice whatsoever.
LA is gearing up for 2028, they are in no position to host anything. Having a venue is not just about the physical space or building, it's the logistics of transportation, housing, vending, security, sanitation and a million other things that LA could not possibly be prepared for on such short notice.
LA hosting has got to be the stupidest bubble boy statement I've heard yet.
Just saw on ESPN ticker, IOC says no backup plan.
Well that was a fun thread!
Mockva
As a Tokyo 2020 ticket holder, I'm following the novel coronavirus press releases very closely. The IOC stated earlier today that no postponements or cancellations are on the table after being advised by the World Health Organization. Not once did any iteration of this story name any WHO official.
This story was allowed to circulate for 24 hours until WHO released a statement. Now we know this:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/tokyo-olympics-on-track-despite-coronavirus-ioc-says-11581692354
You might have noticed that the only source for the original narrative was the IOC.

Maybe you should go to your room and let the adults discuss this now.
Coronavirus appears to be affected by heat and so will likely diesel fizzle out by summer. They said it might return every winter like the flu but I doubt it will affect summer Olympics.

Lol if it's affected by heat why doesn't it die inside humans? Much hotter inside humans than most places on Earth during the summer.
The only option is cancellation.
You can't send newly infected people over to Japan to infect them a second time.
The same reasons the flu mostly hibernate in summer. Idk. I guess it doesnt last on surfaces as long. We get more Vit D (sunlight) in summer. Plenty of beliefs floating around, pick one.
Why would moving it make any difference? People will still come from all over the world. And are they going to ban the Chinese team?
Japan is an island. It's not part of China. Japan is known for being very tight about who is entering the country. See their immigration policies. Is the virus known to be in Japan at this time?

There a quite a few cases in places it's hot year-round like Singapore and Thailand, as well as Australia, where it's summer.

They call it the Summer Flu. That has been around for millennia.
