M 27, going into my first marathon I was 18:51 in september, 1:35:xx in october, and 39:30 in november.
Last weekend was my first marathon, I ran 2:57:xx.
40-45mpw avg since late october. Long run topped out at 16 miles. I ran intervals every tuesday.
I had a similar thread as you. Everyone told me I would be 3:15 - 3:30. So I wouldnt really trust what anyone on hear says, but since we are same age and you have faster pr's and have run marathons before, I would presume you will break 3. Cheers.
Would like to see a 37:xx 10k with your 5k time and then maybe 1:23-24 for the half. When I first started off I ran 1:25/3:03 in the same season. Was on 2:59 for a while, honestly probably would have had it with better fueling. Shortly after that I went 1:20/2:54. Ran 2:47 the season after the 2:54. Endurance takes a while to build but your 70-80 a week is more than enough. I would spend some time to chip away at the 5k/10k. Everyone wants to run the marathon (myself included) but if you've run 16-flat for 5k, you can debut in 2:40. It only makes sense to increase your ceiling.
Oh yeah stil_kannonier I remember that thread! I was following it very closely and was happy to hear about your success is going sub 3! Congrats! hope to do the same in less than 3 weeks. Not much left but a few workouts, one more long run, and a taper till I get my chance :D
Yep definitely want to lower that 10k time! for this one, I raced the 5k on Saturday and did 7 mile recovery run in the afternoon, then raced the 10k on Sunday, so I think with some more good workouts and fresh legs I will be able to run a better 10k.
The core speed workouts that I do are 16-20 x 400m , 6-8 x 800m, and 3-5 x 1600 m. I try to keep the rest pretty short between reps to keep the heart rate elevated. I also do 3 mile time trials all the time cause they are a job requirement for me haha (USMC). Are there any other track workouts that you can recommend?
Unlikely in ATL, but soon after if you continue training. Get the half down to 1:23-1:24. Your times drop off after the 5K.
Yeah those hills are gonna suck! (from what I've heard!) Gonna try to run the first half in 1:29-1:30 and see what happens from there!
Quick training update: First week of 3 week taper; this week I've done 53 miles and will throw in 7 easy tomorrow to finish out the week.
Key workouts this week were 2 X 3 mi @ 18:06 / 19:10 and a 20 miler today with 9 miles @ 7:30 (tempo/long run)
Next week the plan is 48 ish miles, will roughly follow what Pfitz recommends
