The wind conversion from here:
https://jmureika.lmu.build/track/wind/200altwind.htmlgives Bolt 19.18 and Blake 19.19 with equal reaction times, not to mention the extra advantage from Blake running a wider turn.
Though, wind readings for 200m can vary. You do not know how it read on the bend or how consistently it blew.
Good point but here's the thing with wind readings.
Wind is not a constant.
They only have wind reading devices at like 1 point on the track or maybe 2.
Unless they had wind reading devices at 1 foot increments along the track right next to the runners. For instance in each lane. Then we don't know for sure what the wind was.
There could have been a gust of wind at the midway point of the track.
So right now let's not get into the wind aspect of it.
Let's just focus in on the fact that he would have ran 19.13 if he had the same exact reation time that Bolt had.
Yeah the fact that he ran it in lane 7 on a bigger track also helped.
What this tells us is this. Lane 7 or 8 or 9 or whatever the outside lanes are , are always going to be the best lanes to run a 200 in.
The runners are running so fast that on the inside lanes they are actually at a disadvantage.
So what this means is this. We can no longer have races against each other.
Everyone should have a chance to run in the most advantageous lane such as lane 7 or 8 or 9.
Therefore each 200 meter race needs to be just 1 person racing in lane 7 or 8 or 9 and racing against the clock. That's it.
It will take longer to hold all track meets but it's the only way to give everyone a fair chance at running in lane 7 or 8 or 9.
It's not right that the inside people in lane 1 have to fight against centrifugal force to stay in their lane and slow down because they are picked to have the worst lane. Everyone running in lane 1 in a 200 meter race is going to run .28 of a second slower.
They could have everyone line up at lane 7 that is racing the 200 that day ... And they could get 1 race off every 2 mins if they do it right.
For example. Racer number 1 races the 200. Racer number 2 is right behind them and ready to get into the starting blocks on lane 7,8, or 9.
Racer number 2 races the 200. Racer number 3 is right behind them ready to get into the starting blocks and race the 200 in lane 7,8, or 9.
And then so on and then so on.... Until every single 200 meter dash runner has raced the 200 that day in lane 7,8 or 9.
It's the only way to give everyone a legit chance at running their absolute peak time that day.
What does everyone think about this? Is this a good idea?
