At the elite meeting we heard that Allie Kieffer will be 'helping out' as the 2:29.30 pace group for women. I can't see any way in which this will be successful.
That’s quite confident to pace people running around her PR. Doesn’t seem like a great idea
15-man lead pack at 14:07 for 5k (59:33 pace)
There's man listed as American, Wilfred Kimitei, in second place. I'm not sure if he's actually American as he is listed as Kenyan on his World Athletics profile:
https://worldathletics.org/athletes/kenya/wilfred-kimeli-kimitei-293246
where do you get the splis
13 through in 28:07/28:08
watching the 1/2 marathon it seems from the gun the Americans have been a non factor on both the men and womens side. I thought War, Fisher and Huddle were good. Thought they might be in the race for a least a mile or 2
Men are now on course record pace (CR is 59:22, they're on 59:19 pace).
13 men in lead pack at 10k (28:07). None of them are Americans except for Wilfried Kimitei, who I'm not certain is actually American.
Outside of him, Reid Buchanan (29:02) is the top American.
In women's race, Japan's Hitomi Niiya has a huge lead. She's at 31:11, chase pack is 1:17 back. Niiya is on 65:47 pace, which would crush the 67:26 Japanese record.
If the wind is indeed out of the north, miles 9, 10 and 11 will be into the wind.
Man those houston local sideline reporter ladies all sound like big mouth characters.
I’m here on the ground at the finish line. The temperature is perfect but it’s pretty windy. This is particularly true when they’re running through downtown with the big buildings. I’m not sure once they get outside of the city proper what it’s like. I’m hoping that the large packs will allow people to continue to run quick. Americans have been total non-factor from the beginning.
They do have a pretty nice set up with a Jumbotron screen near the finish line so you can watch the broadcast from the finish.
This men's feed is making me nauseous. Camera is all over the place.
when will they talk about the race.
the side by side video of the mayor talking is bigger than the race window
I enjoyed the mayor bragging about Houston having gold label status. Would love to hear him explain what that means!
The finish line announcer just announced that the Japanese woman has a two minute cushion on the world record. He said if you just double her 10K time she’s likely to finish at 62 minutes! I think he’s forgetting the other 0.7 miles.
update on the Americans? I woke up early to watch them!
In the full marathon, askale merachi is on 2.18.50 pace after 10k
