Abuse is a complicated thing. For example, if the husband has threatened extreme violence or death to the family members the mother may think she cannot endanger her kids. Some spouses love the "honeymoon" period after the violence in a pathetic way. I think is some cases both parents are both dysfunctional so applying normalcy standards to them is not possible. In this is the case sadly the best thing for the kids are to be removed from that family environment.
How many times have people asked Mike to come clean and he steadfastly refuses and in antagonistic manner? His problem is not one that is going to be solved with a hug much like Charlie Manson.
Still, the children need protections they cannot always be given. We've probably all heard of kids who end up doing extreme things themselves to protect a parent from abuse.
To be clear, Mike Rossi is the LAST person deserving any sympathy here.
