Has she actually signed or only committed? Maybe she will come to her senses.
they look like official documents
It's possible Tuohy just wants to go where she'll develop best in her freshman year. During freshman year most people are just taking intro classes anyways, which are pretty similar across colleges. She could then transfer to Stanford, Michigan, or Notre Dame.
NC State doesn't develop runners. We can debate if she is faster than Dudek but it is clear which one makes better decisions.
She choose which was safer - she knows the girls going to Nc state - assumes they will be friends long term - and assumes it will be fun to train with them (even if they become faster?) Relatively an immature decision but hopefully it works out for her.
Guys this is beyond silly
Picking a college is like picking a partner
You can't just boil it down to a formula you have to go with your gut
Obviously she clicked better with the coaching staff teammates and the overall Vibe of the program
Stanford is a great school but for whatever reason she didn't want to go out to the West Coast
Seriously you can't just force everyone into a formula.
NC State is just as good as Notre Dame and Michigan in science and technology and math which is her interests
And this whole thing about certain schools being better at developing Pros is just the luck of the draw
In other words all these top programs are basically doing the same things. They have access to the same training, the same technology, the same nutrition
It's just the luck of the drawer which kidsclick better in which environments. How certain personalities and environments mesh
I mean the amount of factors and variables is infinite
It's like stockbrokers who beat the market. Nothing to do with skill it's just pure luck
You put enough monkeys picking stocks some of them will beat the market too. You think those monkeys have some super Financial powers
I get it that some reason you guys have to have a smart top runner go to Notre Dame or Stanford or the world just doesn't make sense
But guess what five of the top 10 distance runners in class of 2020 just chose NC State
From what I've heard all them were also pretty smart girls so obviously NC State is doing something right and is offering a great opportunity
Midwest is not an ideal place for a distance Runner. Weather is cold unpredictable and windy
Michigan is crazy cold
North Carolina has great weather and great running trails
Clearly she didn't want to go out west
It was a great choice. They'll have a good chance to win a National Championship. And she really likes the teammates and coaching staff
Those are the most important things.
It's a major research University. No it's not Stanford or Harvard. But it's a very well-funded school with a lot of opportunity

Chmiel did pretty well during her freshman year xc season. She's pretty comparable to Tuohy in that both are very talented runners from top NY programs. And having many people she's already friends with will help Tuohy adjust to college and take some stress off of her so she can focus on running. Sounds like a great freshman year to me.

Good point...
Also maybe she didn't want to choose a super demanding Academic School because she wants to see what her full potential is giving it her all at running.
She had an amazing spurt from her freshman to sophomore year of high school.
If she can have another spurt like that in college she can get closer to a legitimate Olympic hopeful
I mean this is a running site...
What's with all the emphasis on academics?
I'm not saying it's not great for someone to be exposed to that.
I'm just saying that even though it's a long shot this girl could be the greatest American female distance runner ever.
Is it really better that she puts herself in a pressurized academic environment or gives herself some time to develop fully as an athlete.
I think it's probably a smart move to put yourself in an environment like NC State if you really want to see what your full potential is as a runner. I'm surprised people who are running aficionados wouldn't want to see if she can become an all-time great.
Were the boards this crazy when Allie ostrander choose Boise state?
it's embarrassing how many people here think they are better suited to make a decision of this magnitude than the actual people involved.
Maybe we are. There are thousands of financial planners, hiring managers, academia, coaches, parents, pros, and current NCAA runners reading this. So maybe when you see the majority making similar recommendations, they could be accurate.
It is the opposite of picking a partner. You should spend 2 years with your partner before deciding on a lifetime commitment. Picking a college usually involves 1-2 visits and then some reflection on how it felt which many times is related to the weather that day and a few short random interactions. Most colleges feel good and the student will be happy there. So the decision should be more about lifetime opportunity post college. You see the reputation that NC State has as compared to other schools.

And not one of you knows or has spoken to Katelyn Tuohy so how can you possibly know what is best for her?
Would you accept the recommendations of a financial planner you had never met, and who did not know you?
You got to do what feels right to you and what makes sense in your life
Not living for some imagined conventions rituals or expectations
Just because she has the chance to go to Stanford or Notre Dame on a full ride doesn't mean that that's the best choice for her
She's a great Runner, NC State is a great environment for her to potentially take steps towards world class. Certainly equal if not better than any other college environment
And has been said she's probably going to enjoy her family having an easier time visiting and the teammates that she knows
Again it's silliness that just because she can go to Stanford she has to
It's like saying a rich person has to drive Bentley or Rolls Royce just because their rich. I'm looking forward to seeing what the NC State team can do it looks like a lot of great potential
Your analogy is incorrect. It is like somebody giving you the choice of a Rolls Royce or Chevy Spark for free and you choose the Spark. Thousands of teenage girls get pregnant every year. I can tell them that it is not recommended. Many do drugs. I can tell them that is not recommended. Many don't go to college because their HS boyfriend does not want them to. Some kids choose NC State at the same price as Stanford while others choose to pay $300k to attend. There is a reason that Stanford costs more. Going with your heart when you are 18 is usually the wrong decision.
And there is a reason NC State is getting the better recruits!
She'll be a better runner for having chosen NC State
She'll also be happier and healthier
Living for some Elite standard or imagined ideal is the reason a lot of kids end up miserable or Worse
She's not chasing the green or the unreal dream but rather found the best scene for her
And the reason Stanford cost more is because it's a private school that jacks up the price
Tons of private schools that cost way more then Public Schools which are way better than them
I'm not saying Stanford's not a good school I'm just saying that it's not the right school for everyone and it's not the best situation for everyone
And a better analogy with the cars would be like getting offered 2 free cars 1 that's more expensive but doesn't fit your needs and another one that's a little bit less expensive but works perfectly for your situation

more arrogance.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
