These young guys are probably just stopgaps. Best of luck to them, though.

I think that Zach Barr has to be included in any discussion of top five individuals. He was very impressive outdoors and has improved every year in cross. If the post about Yuot having knee surgery is true that definitely makes things more interesting, considering even for minor surgery he would miss 3-4 weeks of training. Who do you all see making nationals from each region?
For teams or individuals?
you're a retard...people pick yuot to win every year because it's the most logical pick after seeing his performances...the people on this message board and everywhere else in the country can't control whether he is injured or not come the end of the season...he was injured the last half of last cross and was injured the last half of track (knee...and he still got 2nd in both the 5 and the 10)...if not injured he will dominate...
Well put
he wasn't injured in track or cross...he just peaked too early. Last year widener came out strong early and then fizzled out. This year I think they will be smarter
you obviously have no idea what you're talking about...he limped his way to the individual title at both the conference meet and the regional meet...after regionals he needed help walking around...the dude was only running 3 days/15 miles a week at the most the last month + of the cross season...the same knee problem came back to haunt him the end of the track season ass well...don't post if you don't have your facts straight
I watched him at conference and regionals and he didn't seem to have any problem, I did not see him "limp" his way to either title.
I was in the regional race and was amazed at the ease that Yuot could vary his pace esp. early in the race. At one point I though he looked like Peyton Manning calling audibles because he ran up to tell a teammate something and then dropped back in the pack a bit. He didn\'t look injured then, but I have read on his facebook profile that he is indeed getting knee surgery this summer.
you weren't looking close enough...the regional meet was one of the ugliest wins i've seen from him...he looked horrible the whole race...and you obviously didn't see him after the race because he was limping around everywhere...even while i talked to him and asked him what was wrong...i'm only telling the facts here...you don't have to accept them, but they are the truth
I'll accept them I'm just saying that I saw him and I didn't see/notice any of that. Is that why he didn't do steeple this year? because of his knee
Yuot was definently injured at the end of both XC and outdoor track this year. In the fall it was some sort of knee problem, if I remember correctly, and for 3 weeks or so before nationals he was forced to do pretty low mileage. Anybody that was at the race knows he gave it a go but was not fit enough to hang with Moen. Outdoors was much less serious, I think, but he had had a mild injury before tripling (10k/5k/1500) at conferences, a pretty dumb move which made it worse (I think it was something with his hamstring). Obviously he was still able to run at nationals.
Having seen him run at outdoor nationals this year, it's hard to not pick Yuot for the win. Moen and Yuot completely outclassed the fields in the 5k and 10k. None of the other returners were even close to hanging with these two. This kid just keeps getting better every year, so if he can stay healthy for the whole season I don't imagine anyone being near him.
If I was a betting man, I would probably bet THE FIELD over Yuot, but I think he's still the undeniable favorite. There's some other nice runners out there (Sawicki, Holtschute, Finnegan, Sigl, Mueller, Lacey, Garcia, etc.) but none of them have distinguished themselves quite like Yuot did running 29:21, winning the indoor 5, and finishing second to Moen in the outdoor 5 and 10. He'll need to be at his best to win, but I'll take Yuot's best over anyone else's best.
hey, I am a central region nerd, so I thought it would be cool to compile the central region results without the seniors.

1. Nebraska Wesleyan with Ashley, otherwise inc.!
2. Grinnell
3. Carleton
4. St. Olaf
5. Wartburg
6. Hamline
7...Mac,Loras,St Johns.
the biggest surprise here is Grinnell is the favorite as is, I added in a 20th place finisher as Ashley because he is obviously still running for them and is a national calib. steepler.
Solverson is the top finisher, although I think Metzdorff, Riley, or the dye twins will challenge. top frosh dunker and grant will probably also improve. Dark horses include Jeff Davis, where is he? western state transfer who is he? steve harris and tim smit MIAC guys did they run track? Iowa top dogs Honig and Moldenhauer, Luthers Adam we used to all know him Bohach, Sam Hauck he used to be really good, is he injured or burnt out?, Tony that other kid from olaf with the red face Hoff?
I too have heard the rumors about Yuot being injured going into the national races last year. I don't know anything firsthand, but the guy is an unbelieveable talent the likes of which has rarely been seen at the D3 level. In my opinion, there is no way he would have broken like he did in cross if he was healthy and fit. Just look at the top 10 from Paul Short Invite last year, a major D1 invitational: McDougal, Curtis, Meyer, and Lieb are all D1 All Americans. If he can make it to nationals healthy, he will crush the field. Widener is weird though, for anyone who follows the Mideast region their lower varsity runners tend to self destruct towards the end of the year while their top guys thrive.
1 Joshua McDougal 0:23:43.53 951 Liberty
2 Robert Curtis 0:23:53.19 1210 Villanova
3 Lucas Meyer 0:23:59.99 1248 YALE
4 Macharia Yuot 0:24:00.32 1241 Widener
5 Dustin Lieb 0:24:10.66 1184 UPenn
6 Mike DiDio 0:24:13.74 1101 St Joes
7 Austin Smith 0:24:14.29 1035 Princeton
8 Fleet Hower 0:24:14.85 818 Georgetown
9 Chris Lukezic 0:24:15.31 822 Georgetown
10 Adam Tenerowicz 0:24:17.68 1234 Wm&Mary
I heard that Yuot at least partially tore his patellar tendon during indoor and ran the whole outdoor season on it. Pretty sick in my opinion. I heard he's gonna be out for a while too, but once he gets back, he is gonna be good. He's my pick for the favorite if he's healthy.
i can't believe no one has mentioned UW-Oshkosh yet...i see them being extremely tough this year and a trophy team for sure...just look at their roster and the stats of guys returning
The Oshkosh guys have choked bigtime at nationals since their victory in 02.
Oshkosh should be good for second best WIAC school, with Boehlke and Kaul leading the way... will Paul Brown make his 12th comeback attempt? They usually get a freshman good enough to make the top five, also...
Platteville has enough young talent to contend for a top ten nationals finish... besides Sigl, they've got Dillis, Fulton, and Goessl that have run low 15's for 5k indoors...
Point could be either a surprise or a dud, depending on how healthy they stay and how well they learn on the fly... experience will not be a strong point for them this year. They will have one 5th year senior, Kujawa, one junior, Ormond, then all sophs or freshmen. The sophs and esp. one freshman are talented, but nothing is a given.
Anyone care to pick all the team qualifiers? Here's what I think, I know some regions better than others though.
Atlantic-NYU, Geneseo
Central-Nebraska Wesleyan, Wartburg, Grinnell, Carleton, Hamline? I don't know, I can't believe they get five this year!
Great Lakes-Calvin, Depauw, Anderson
Mideast-Haverford, Carnegie Mellon, Widener
Midwest-LaCrosse, North Central, Platteville, Oshkosh, WashU
New England-Williams, Tufts, Wesleyan
South-Emory
West-Willamette, Puget Sound
