So is there any chance Tuohy will run FL?
She's already going out to the West Coast for nxn. She should just stay out there and show up at Foot Locker
San Diego is a nice place to be this time of year. Get some good training in swim a little. I predict after the girls race starts she makes a break for it. crash the course and get the win
I'll also go with 1 Tuohy, 2 Rauber, 3 Thorvaldson, 4 Walters, 5 Hart
It was cold wet and nasty all day Sunday, and I spent some time looking at some historical speed rating data. I know Tuohy is well known, and won Gatorade athlete of the year etc. , but I would still have to say the stretch of XC races she put together during the Fall of 2018 was truly breathtaking and somehow still underrated.
9/22 Ocean State RI speed rating 176
10/6 Holmdel Park NJ speed rating 177 (time of 16:21 more than a minute ahead of old record!)
10/13 Sunken Meadow speed rating 173 (LOL a slow one to see the state meet course)
10/20 Bowdoin Park speed rating 174
I know she peaked early and kind of limped into championship season (which she still won), and that this phase may have been the height of her high school running career (I personally disagree), but I think it's great to just appreciate this 1 month period of sustained excellence. The weather was ideal, courses were dry and fast, her fitness level was amazing, excitement in the crowds. I can remember those rare moments in my own running where everything was just perfect and you won a race or made a PB, but I can't imagine that moment lasting over a whole month and at a nation's best level.
The Holmdel mark for me is the best one, and may be the best girl's high school mark ever. Given the piles of data from all the years of racing there, and the fact that some of the previous record holders have gone on to win Foot Locker or NXN, makes the 1 minute gap from the old record quite amazing. I know the one off Amber Trotter 180 looms in the history book, but this Holmdel 177 may actually be better, and this 1 full month of sustained excellence compares favorably as well.
Now with 2019 regionals and nationals in site, I hope she can find a similar run of form to close out her high school XC career.
That seems about right if all the girls were solely focused on nxn. Not sure if a couple of girls would just chill at nxn as a warm-up for Footlocker
Haygood post!
Yeah I wish when he did speed ratings he would posts Runners who had multiple Fast Times
Tully will list Katelyn Tuohy top speed rating but he won't show that she has like the top five of the year
Yeah I think Amber Trotters 180s is inflated. Tuohy has like 10 speed ratings above 170
And I'm pretty sure no one else has more than one. Pretty big sign of how good she is
I agree that Touhy will probably crash the Foot Locker championship
Not sure if she will show up for all the preliminary stuff or just end up running on the course right after it starts but she will probably be there
Either way there's no way that they would turn her away. Kind of like if you show up at a nice restaurant wearing in really awesome suit and driving a Ferrari. They're going to at least let you sit in the lounge.
Is it possible that she could just run alongside the course even if she's not officially entered. That would probably be the best of both worlds she could show that she would get the win while still allowing someone else to partake in the official championship!
Not sure how realistic it is that she could crash onto the course or run alongside the course.
I'm surprised Foot Locker doesn't offer some automatic entries to top runners.
If Tuohy wants to crash the course or run along side no ones stopping her!
You know what kind of ratings and attention that would bring Foot Locker!

Has been discussed on this site as nauseam. Trotter ran a very fast time to win the race by a wide margin over a bunch of very good runners. A warm, humid, December day on a course that was supposed to be somewhat soft. Perhaps her being from CA whereas half the field was from the northeast and midwest was an advantage. The South girls as a group ran badly that day as well. Whether that means Trotter could have won a race against Tuohy on any of the courses on the days where Tuohy ran her fast times/high speed ratings is a separate question.

I know someone said last year they called her last minute (I believe the week before) to ask if she wanted to compete. Does that mean she could skip the qualifying race? I would think they would want to have the best of the best battling it out at their competition.
side from Heat and the footing of the course
How difficult was the chorus compared to Holmdel Park which is known as a tough hilly course
How difficult was the course that Trotter ran just in terms of terrain and Hills. From what I remember it wasn't that tough of a course mostly flat. I think the other girls just had bad days cuz of the Heat and Trotter was running great but I don't think she was as fast as an overall Runner as Tuohy
Footlocker qualifying is on the same day as nxn for New Yorkers. You think they'd figure something out about that!
Yeah I know it's crazy. They should find a way to schedule it so that all the good Runners can be there.

The data implies the 2001 FL course ran 10-15 seconds slower than the 2018 FL Balboa Park course which by the data ran about the same speed as van Cortlandt Park in 2018. Not that that is what the speed rating is intended to mean. To me, the 2001 result says Totter could handle the heat/humidity better than the bulk of the field. By a lot. I am not sure you can or even should try to translate that to a different course. We are beating a dead horse here.
Everyone saying she's going to crash Foot Locker! I don't buy it though. Too risky!
How much does running Foot Locker effects performance at nxn?
