I have thoughts about the whole interview.
Firstly I’m sad for Mary. She was so young and naive. She also seemed really lonely. She was kind of a nerd in a high school full of children of New York elite, and may not have had a ton of friends at that point. She thought her team members were her friends and only realized later that was not the case. I think she wanted to be a great runner. But more than anything I think she wanted to feel like she belonged somewhere. And Alberto took advantage of that.
As for Shannon, well the one thing I have to say is that this story may have been a bit unfair to share as she didn’t realize that someone was reading her private text. We shouldn’t judge her for that.
We should judge her on the “I wrote a masters thesis” post in response to all of what Mary endured, her constant defending her choices, and her dismay at why anyone would dare question her character when she remained with a dirty coach four years after credible allegations.
