I had similar issues in college at my sophmore year. PR's of 1:53 (800), 3:55 (1500), 4:11 (mile) but only 15:56 (5K) and 27:21 (8k). Could normally run a relay 400 in about 50 low. Was running 55-65 miles per week at the time.
I had my ferritin levels checked and I remember them being quite low, something around 15 ng/mL and I was put on iron supplements to try to bring those levels up. For some reason taking iron generally made me feel horrifically worse. I was struggling to train or race any kind of distance. For instance, one 8k I completely tanked and ran something like 29:30. Cross country season ended and I decided not to take iron in the off-season or in-season for track. I ended up running all of my track PRs that season, but did not run any 5ks.
Unfortunately, the rest of my college career was plagued by injuries and I never returned to my old form or figured out what was up with those poor distance performances. Perhaps the injuries were caused by some nutrition imbalance?? I suspect there was some iron issue, nutrition imbalance, or sleep deprivation during that season, but it's all very speculative at this point.
