I'm a little bit bigger than your average runner. I'm 6' and 195-200 lbs. (depending on the day), and definitely a late bloomer.
I eat fairly well and am naturally more muscular than a lot of runners, with thicker legs, a broader and prominent chest, etc.
I do a fair amount of calisthenics, but nothing over the top; about 100-200 push ups a day mixed in with core exercises, but don't touch weights and wouldn't know what do with them.
My body fat isn't at a Centro level, but it's fairly low and I mostly have a six-pack; so I don't think fat is an issue.
For other bigger runners our there, do you have any training advice for a marathoner in terms of mileage, workouts, etc.?
As mentioned, I was a bit of a late bloomer. I was super skinny, but the same height in high school and college - and went on to run some decent hobby jogger marathons in my very earlier 20s in the mid-2:40s.
My mileage now is about 75 a week, and off of that I'm able to run in the lower 2:50s. This is about the same amount of mileage as when I was running my better times in my early 20s, but I just can't see to move my body as quickly anymore now that I'm 31.
Is this just an aging thing, or are there any specific training plans you've see that have worked for bigger guys? Or, are there tweaks I can make to perhaps be back under 2:50 a few times in the next year or two?
Yeah, I know that there are some IG dudes out there, but don't want to reach out to those knuckleheads.
Thanks in advance!
