Last years McNeil Invitational was fast---- until you look at the following facts:
6 guys ran faster times than this years winning time of 15:07 (Jarett Kirk). 3 ran sub 15:00.
16 girls broke 18:00 last year. This year... only THREE broke that barrier.
Even more impressive, Brown won the race by 48 seconds. Culbreath won her race by 15 seconds.
Brown's race this year was slower, I'm not sure if there was a difference in course or worse weather, but times ALL ACROSS the board were slower. No chance Kirk had an "off race".
There is no doubt in my mind Brown has been running by far, the most impressive XC races I have ever seen a female TX runner in Texas history. When I said Brynn Brown was the greatest female XC runner in Texas history, I more so meant, based off all of her races this year, that if she were to race at her best (prior to the injury this year) against any other Texas XC runner, I would have believed none of them would be favored to beat her. No, she's not the most accomplished, but I'm pretty damn certain she has the state 2-mile record (technically 3200 as well). Culbreath ran a great mile record, but I know for a fact Chelsey Sveinsson and Julia Heymach have ran sub 4:43 for the mile and so she doesn't have the state record.
And anyways, running a fast mile, 1600, or 800 doesn't indicate anything about cross country. Which was what I was talking about. A two-mile is more in line. What did Brown run last season? 9:57 for 2-miles.
How hard has she been dominating this season of XC prior to her injury? Victory margins of 45+ seconds upwards to even a minute.
And this is against girls that have run 10:30 and faster for 3200m.
Imagine beating girls that ran a 10:24 & 10:30 in the previous season by 48-49 seconds in one race.
Then in other races, beating those same girls by even upwards to 1:00.
Show me a time London was putting that kind of dominance in XC races, even at her best. Because while she is very accomplished and definitely a great athlete--- she has never done something as dominate like that.
