I have a marathon in December.
About me:
40 mpw average for the last few months.
Low bmi of 19 idieal for long distance.
My mile fitness is somewhere in the 5:40-5:50 region.
My 5k fitness is probably a hair over 20 but definitely sub 21.
HM best is 1:40:57.
I have always been a low mileage person so I don’t expect to run my VDOT predicted times but I do want to aim for a semi-decent timing. I thought that I may aim for 3:30ish (I’d be happy with 3:3x) and that this would be a reasonable goal for my debut marathon. I have done about 3 18-20 miles in the last 6 months all around 8.5 to 9 pace.
I am thinking that along with just getting the miles in (I have built from 25 mpw up to 40 over the course of the last 6 months), my main fitness and confidence building would be some 8 to 12 mile tempos, I am doing these comfortably at about 7:45 pace but I have done some faster runs 8 to 10 mile runs at sub 7:30 pace (but I’ve never ran over ten miles at this pace).
What pace should be comfortable for ten mile tempo runs to indicate tha5 I would be ready for a low or sub 3:30 timing?
