Polling our esteemed group here because I know you guys have loads of experience:
Current marathon forecast for me: cloudy, little to no wind.
At 8am (race start): 35 degrees
9am: 41
10am: ~46
11am: 50
I'm planning on warming up in tights for the lower half and maybe wearing higher socks in general (so I'm feeling good about that aspect). Where I'm batting around some ideas is the upper half. I plan on wearing a running cap and feel good about that. I would definitely overheat in a beanie.
Definitely going to have something warm for warm-up, but should I go DryFit t shirt only for race? Wear a cotton long-sleeve to discard (number on shirt below?). Arm sleeves (if so best place to get those)?
I have a running store right by work so I can hopefully pick anything up I can need.
Singlet and throwaway gloves should be fine
In that weather, I would wear a beanie or a hat (I am bald, so I need more help than others with head heat retention), shorts, my normal socks, and arm sleeves.
The one thing that I would probably add is a compression top under my singlet. I found an Under Armour sleeveless compression top which worked perfectly for me in a couple of different races - NYC 2014 (low 40s, winds in the 25 mph range, on and off rain) and the Houston .half in 2018.
In fact, the weather you described is a lot like the Houston 2018 weather where I wore exactly what I just described (Houston may have been 5 degrees cooler). AngryJohnny, Jewbacca, Andy Dufresne and Slo also ran that day, so I would be curious to hear their opinions.
Looks like a nice forecast. Singlet and shorts for the race. Throw away shirt and pants to to keep warm before the race. I think Smoove mentioned one of thoes tyvek suits from a home improvements store, so that is another option. For the beginning miles get some cheap knit gloves, knit hat, and long socks with the end cut off to use as arm warmers. During the race toss those as needed once you warm up.
Dude you hit the weather jackpot.
I’d go - Singlet, shorts, JUNK headband, lightweight gloves, arm sleeves, socks (your choice), and vaporflies. This is what I wore in similar conditions in Houston the last couple years. Be prepared to remove the sleeves, headband, and gloves when it warms up. Get er done.
Runn3rgirl ran that race too - man, that was quite the collection of weekly thread posters in one place.

Congrats to all last weekend's racers, wow, a lot of spectacular results! And best wishes to all those competing tomorrow and Sunday.
Allen - You got it. I'd love to replace it with something and keep you on the list, want to submit?
RunnerSam - Will reflect that next week.
Awesome input guys. Super helpful and I appreciate it. Sounds like something on the arms(sleeves or I have bunch of cheap long socks I could cut) /head(I'll stick with a cap, my head will get super-hot)/hands(probably some cheap gardening gloves/the like) that are removable/disposable is the safe play. Stay warm with the heat gear until the start.
My bib is 1197 btw and I think this is the tracking link if you want to follow at all. Not sure how sophisticated it will be but hopefully some good splits. No 6:08 first mile this time :)
It keeps saying spam if i post the link but it's the Bay State Marathon iresultslive

I'd agree that you hit the weather jackpot! Lot's of great advice there. You've got a great plan. Thanks for the tracking link, those are always fun. :)
Good luck!!!
TL - I would pretty much kill for those conditions. Bill Rodgers (my favorite) would always say “40 and cloudy,” and I have found 35 and cloudy to be ideal as well. To be precise, I might even prefer mid or upper 30s and cloudy and “bundle up” a bit...get warm in the first 8-10 miles and then be ready to roll after ditching my knit hat and homemade (cotton socks) arm warmers. So, for your conditions, I would either wear full or half tights, a short sleeve tech shirt, homemade arm warmers, a knit hat, and cheap knit gloves. As you can see, I like to err on the warm side, especially since I am such a lightweight. I would rather be comfortable, especially early on, then worry about sweating too much. In those conditions sweat is not a huge issue for me.
Best of success to you.
Thanks a lot OR, I believe i have some half-tights back in my childhood home and will definitely consider giving them a whirl. Good enough for Kipchoge, good enough for me! I will have the knit hat with me, race-time decision whether i run with it or just go with a cap (i'll wear it on top to cover ears).
I run hot so love cold weather. In 30s would be singlet and shorts. Gloves. A beanie I would toss after a mile or two. JUNK Headband obv. Keeps the ears toasty without being thick as well if you have cold ears. Sunglasses (always a must for me). And shoes.
TL - You are welcome. You could also go with a knit hat/headband combo. Go out with both on, and then toss the cheap knit hat once you feel warm enough. Then, you have the headband for the rest of the way. I have done this.
TL - It never hurts to bundle up a bit if it’s disposable. It’s amazing how warm you can stay running marathon pace in that weather. Just have fun and hope you get a good result.
Sub 6:00, I meant to ask how the Tyvek treated you. I actually think it’s a pretty effective solution for $10-$15, especially since it gives wind protection and some small degree of protection against precip. Not at all breathable though.
Smoove - I think it’s a really good option. I got a 6-pack for about $30. They tried to usher us out of the tent pretty early on, although hardly anyone was moving until maybe 25-30 mins before the race. Then they had us lined up until the elites got into the corral, maybe 5 mins before the start. So there was a decent period where we were standing around, and it did a good job keeping me warm.
