Bekele is still the GOAT.
If Bekele wanted to run sub-2 he could easily do it.

Kipchoge is 3-0 head to head in Marathons and will never lose against Bekele in a Marathon.
Kipchoge is the marathon goat, sorry man

The Bekele bandwagoners always forget this simple fact. Just like after he ran his 2:03 in Paris, he'll flop his next 2-3 races, and the people like the OP will be gone again.

Yes! This is the truth! The entire course from start to finish was in fact only 57 meters long!
We're so lucky to have fake Internet sleuths like you among us!
Bekele was already the GOAT before he ran 2:01:41. There is nothing Kipchoge can do at this point in his career to change that. He would have to get past Geb and El G first and I don't think he will. All of that said, Kipchoge is undoubtedly the marathon GOAT and has been since his WR in Berlin. Sub 2 is just icing on the cake.
Bekele is just a hobby jogger. Anyone could run his times if the tried. Eluid is the fastest man in human history.

Interesting take, because Kipchoge was losing to Bekele for almost all his track and cross career.
I think we are talking about two different things here.
Bekele is the G.O.A.T. with regard to track -5k and 10k as well as cross country.
Kipchoge is the G.O.A.T. with regard to marathon.
Both of these scenarios can exist together and they do.
Kipchoge only beat Bekele once on track (to the best of my knowledge) and Bekele has never beaten Kipchoge in the marathon. He's never even had faster time than him and now, it is seemingly out of reach.
However, if there is a man who could break the world record as well as the 2 hour barrier, it is Bekele.
There is no one else at the moment who seems like he can do it.

Before Kipchoge set the world record, he had a personal best of 2:03:05. Bekele had 2:03:03.
Plus if you look at their 2:01:xx marathons , Bekele had pacers for much longer than kipchoge did. Kipchoge was all alone while bekele had other competitors to draft off etc. kipchoge ran comfortable at the end waving to the crowd Bekele was going all out.
That said I do hope the race each other at London and or the olympics. Mostly so kipchoge can put the smack on him
Who has the marathon wr?
You can’t have two GOAT.
Only one GOAT.
And it’s Bekele!

Bekele has 3 World Records. Kipchoge has 1.
Bekele has 3 Olympic Golds. Kipchoge has 1.
If Bekele is fully prepped, and turned up, then he’ll win any race there is against Kipchoge. And that is why he’s the GOAT.
I'm a fan but something's always up with Bekele. His preparation is never 100%. He could drop another 2:01 tomorrow but he'll still say his training was interrupted and that's becoming a running joke. Like the Ingebrigtsens, according to them, they hadn't hit top form when their fastest times and if you believe their interviews, they never hit top form all year.
I hope they battle at the Olympics next year.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
