Also, if you've run 2:20 in a relay you can already run 2:20 in a solo 800.
I think everyone just latched onto the XC times and said you aren't good enough for D1. You could easily cut 7-10 seconds off your 800 in the next two years. If you bump up the training some and continue to develop that is not unreasonable. At that level you would be able to get onto quite a few D1 teams. Not the best programs but there would be options for you. But as someone mentioned in regards to Northwestern, choose one that has track, your XC times will not make you competitive unless you get much faster there.
