Going to be way faster than running on grass and dirt would be.

plenty of xc courses have a lot of asphalt and 'crete but yes, obviously a lot quicker than grass or dirt

Never raced on a single one that was more than 5 meters of crossing over a bike path. How do you run on something like that with spikes?

You said it better than me. I meant they really were only focused on 4 races, as like most good teams they can train through their league and sectional meet. Compare this too Great Oak who is racing 7 "peak races" meaning 7 races they send their varsity too and need to perform at. (Big Ditch Invite, Woodbridge, Great American, Clovis, Mt. Sac, state, NXN)

I recall seeing somewhere that the only times CA teams wear spikes is at NXN.

It's against CIF rules to wear spikes in CA XC races, other than Footlocker Nationals.

Thats not even 100m and the only part pavement.

Look at the course map online all grass and dirt and that would be the only strip. Woodward park has the same amount of pavement and they have held DI NCAA regionals there.

But why? Why not have cross country courses that are actually cross country? Does California have some secret that no other states know

for sure, also don't forget about Colin Sahlman too. NP could potentially have at least 5 guys run sub-9:00.

Also, for this year, CA State top 10 team rankings for XC in my opinion:

1. Newbury Park

2. Great Oak

3. Bellarmine

4. Claremont

5. Dublin

6. Dana Hills

7. Poway

8. Burbank

9. Clovis North

10. La Costa Canyon

I genuinely believe that Bellarmine could challenge Great Oak for that 2 spot at state. This is definitely Newbury Park's year, but next year I could definitely see Bellarmine taking the crown. Their entire varsity squad right now is entirely juniors, and they have some big talent coming up the pipeline.

As for individual runners regardless of class, Nico Young and Matt Strangio are in a class of their own. I like Christopher Middleton-Pearson of Dublin and Colin Peattie of Bellarmine too. If they continue to progress they could potentially challenge both Strangio and Young at state (see results of De La Salle Invitational). Have to put in Caleb Niednagel and Jace Aschbrenner in the mix as well.

Really exciting to see all these incredible times. This crop of runners (2020-2023) producing some generational talent.

Have you ever been to or lived in California? The only places that have enough grass and dirt to be able to wear spikes safely are golf courses or parks, both of which are often very difficult or impossible to get permits to use. Open up google maps and take a look via satellite images of southern california. It's extremely dry here. It's not that we don't want "real" cross country courses, they simply aren't an option for 90% of meets being put on.

Even with calibration, which you didn't do
