I know rumors can be ridiculous, but I'm hearing this from lots of coaches. Any truth to U or Colorado coach Mark Wetmore retiring?

I like your name. “2nd Hand Coach”, lol.
Are there also rumors who the next coach will be?

Check out the 2024 coaches thread Fred
Yeah, someday.
It's too bad that a track oriented news site can't put a reporter on this story. Someone with some real connections that might get a source to spill what they know about the situation in Boulder.

Well Colorado has not announced a contract extension and it’s June in a few days. Mark’s contract is up at the end of June. I would think there is a good chance he “retires”
Mike Smith to Colorado would be cool, but I keep hearing future pros being told Mike Smith will have a formal Nike group in Flagstaff and be done coaching NAU. Some serious distance coaches musical chairs between those 2 positions and all who would apply and what jobs they leave open!
Mark Wetmore implies the existence of the bros Matthew, Luke, and John Dryless, all of whom are sprint coaches.
Wetmore and Burroughs were damaged by the investigation that Colorado conducted into complaints about poor mental health and disordered eating amongst former members of the Buffs program. CU didn’t want to fire them but, will allow their contracts to expire and for Mark to retire with dignity.
The AD wants a fresh start as they return to the Big XII this coming fall. They need younger and fresher thinking. With her career pretty much over due to age and the broken ankle, I wouldn’t be surprised if Joe Bosshard and Emma Coburn are hired as Distance/XC Assistants under a new Director/Head Coach brought in to revamp the program top-to-bottom. Jenny Simpson is also a possibility to run the distance side of the team.
I also wouldn’t be shocked if Damon Martin from Adams State or Chris Siemers from Mines were tabbed.
no way dam martin leaves adam
The vultures are circling.

Joe and Emma are not liked by too many Colorado people. That would never happen.
Ryan Vanhoy has talked with Colorado about Wetmore’s job. If he wants it, it’s his.

Very unlikely Jenny Simpson would be in a situation to take over the program. She has very little actual coaching experience and she wants to start a family. Seems unlikely they’d bring anyone in who has no actual experience at the college level (maybe Ritz, maybe), but there will be to many good candidates to fill this role who will have had success at the college level. If they decide to hire a track person to direct the program (like the Malone’s who are currently on the track staff at CU) then that opens up some flexibility for the XC coach hire. It will be interesting.

Not a chance in hell. He can’t qualify any athletes for NCAA’s at Cal poly. He’s not going to Colorado.
I'd stongly consider Seimers.. The job that he's done at Mines is extraordinary.

He could be a good option, but CU is a different animal than Mines.
Why are all these Srs. allowed to take in those nice 6-figures? I really don't get why anybody should still be doing this past 65.
I cannot imagine two worse individuals to coach than Boss and Coburn.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
