Sure, 10k of work at 3k pace is a lot, but that's why they were done in 400m reps and not 1000m reps.
400m reps with 1 minute recovery. 1 minute is not enough.
10x400 in 60 with 1 minute is a standard 4 flat mile indicator. Chelimo is a 3:55 guy, so he should be about done by 10x59.
It's likely Chelimo can run faster than 3:55 despite that being his official PR. Dude has kicked with the best in recent years, has an olympic silver, sub 13 5k, etc. It's significantly closer to his 3k pace than it is his mile pace, and I'd pick a slow twitch guy ( comparatively speaking) like Chelimo to be able to handle this workout much better than a typical 3:55 miler who specializes in the mile.
