Well, this thread is up to 12 PAGES, so I think it is safe to say these boards ARE going crazy with this! :)

From now on we need to be talking about 'Schumacher-approved" tracks and races.
I prefer 'Jerry-certified'
Guess the sports physiologists were right about the "live high - train low" model.
Looking beyond the surface, another big winner is Park City, Utah. Expect Park City to be ground zero for elite distance runner's worldwide from now on for their non-winter training, like Albuquerque once was and Flagstaff is now.
Nike now needs to have its headquarters track certified for all distances and start having multi-event tune-up meets like last night. Would loved to have seen the Bowerman Babes run a 1500 . . . at least a gut-check for Houlihan to see where she's at. Need a steeplechase water jump as well since so many great steeplers have/are on the BTC team.
In any case, give Jerry/Nike at "A+" for a successful science experiment.
+1

There is a water jump

I love this sport and try my best to keep it positive but no way can you spin 300 total in attendance as a good turnout.
Whoever said there were 300 in attendance wasn't there. There was at least 2k. The newspaper quoted 2500 but that might be a bit overstated.... It was an amazing event.
2k people on a tuesday night, to watch 3 pros run for 13mins to get a qualifiying time. I thought it was an amazing event. I'm hoping they do more of these. Good energy, amazing running, festive atmosphere.
Just clearing up some misconceptions since I was there.
It was definitely more than 300 people but hard for me to estimate the total. I could believe 2500.
Lots of families, high school kids, and track nerds, not solely Nike employees.
Mo was chasing them down the home stretch cheering, lol. Not sure if that’s legal, but he was behind them so I’d consider it no foul. Really amazing rabbit job by him.
So, a white British guy named David Moorcroft ran 13:00.41 THIRTY-SEVEN YEARS ago!!! Some of you weren't BORN then!
Chew on THAT!

Too be honest: As a non American I don´t know what "top PREP 2- milers" mean. But from Centro´s IAAF profile I can see that he has not run any fast 5000m for years. So I still think it looks strange that he in a season where his 1500m best is far from his PB suddenly runs 5000m in 13.
Do you even follow track and field.
Um he is a 1500 m runner, and typically only does a 5k early in a season. He was injured and didn't start his training at the normal time. He did run a 3:52 mile back in June, but he admitted he had strength but wasn't sharp. He has been doing more strength 5k running.

Haven't read all 13 pages - how many races were there? How many field events?
Just one race. Meet was over in 13 minutes.
Not only are Africans screwing Ben True, but now Nike athletes.
THIS.
300 is a low-ball. I'd say it was closer to 1500 and that was after 1-day worth of low-key word of mouth/social media.

False.

I've always said that. People don't realize the difference between a time trial in perfect conditions and a DL race.
I mean Ben True has run 13:02 at Stanford. The best he's ever run in a DL race is 13:05.54. Hassan Mead same thing. 13:02 at Stanford, 13:04 in DL.
It's rare to have perfect weather and perfect pacing and not have to jostle for position.
I feel like at least half of DL races offer an opportunity for someone to run 12:58 pace directly behind the pacers without jostling, with the added incentive of a big payday for a 12:58 finish. There haven't been more than a few races in the past two years that were significantly faster than that.
So I'm leaning toward thinking that these guys did something special yesterday.

Let's also not forget Ben True doesn't have Nike facilities and an elite training team. The guy pretty much runs by himself year round in the Northeast and has consistently run under the new Olympic standard for some time now.
True
Too bad there's no time conversion for that! You don't get awards for training hard. You get awards for racing fast.
Can't believe how many people are on here just trying to discount this record. The track isn't short.

Only on LR could we have an 3 American runners go 12:58, 13:00, 13:00 and people would have issue with it.
Well it seems a little bizarre....The times have come literally out of nowhere. Now we are mentioning Woody in the same sentence with Bob Kennedy in the 5k?? According to IAFF his pr before this was 13:26? 28 seconds in one swoop. Schmucheer the greatest coach ever for getting athletes ready to.......time trial?

People keep glossing over his indoor 5k PR like it's a free throw shooting percentage or something from a different sport. It's an important stepping stone.
What is the threshold that separates a "hobbyjogger" from a "sub-elite" runner?
