I prefer the Under Armor ads.
I prefer the Under Armor ads.
you are SPOT on correct.. they are the ONLY company of the majors to consistently walk the walk and talk the talk
they lead, the others follow
Yeah, well only Nike would exploit cancer to market athletic wear. What's next, AIDS socks and headbands? Malaria watches and glasses? Altzheimers mp3 players and soccer balls?
I remember owning my 1st Nike's in 6th grade. I am 32 now.
I beat the standing broad jump and jump rope record at my elementary school with them. They were the most comfortable shoes.
Agree.
back to that commercial though, I loved it....one of the best commercials I've seen in the past 5 years

I was about to mention the Lance ads as well. Great ads.
The other shoe companies ads are generally pretty bad.
And as long as Armstrong signs off on the ads, I have no problem with them using his cancer to promote their shoes. Lance Armstrong's story is about coming back from cancer.
that is an awsome ad, so inspirational. very cool
gf
What about the commercial when nike had all their athletes doing different sports? I got a kick out of that one. Then there was the original Tiger ball trick...please, how do you even try to compete with that if you're Titleist. Number one ball in golf? Ha!
I think Nike does a great job connecting the athletes to the fans in their advertising.
For example, in that Lance ad when he is announcing that he has cancer, EVERYONE knows someone who had cancer- to see him make that announcement is both heartbreaking and incredibly inspirational.
For that Tiger Woods ad, you can see how much he enjoyed playing golf as a little kid. He looks like he's just having a great time goofing off and pretending he's winning tournaments. Everyone has been that kid at some point.
Ditto with those ads showing the "ordinary" folks playing sports.
Compare that to Reebok ads, where it's Allen Iverson talking about making millions, etc. Bad spokesman, irritating message.
As for McDonald's- most people have eaten McDonald's, so it's almost as if they don't NEED to have good commercials, all they need to do is remind the audience of the product.
It's just part of a money-grab ploy, and apparently you (among others) have bought-in without much thoughtful analysis.
a long time ago, there was a nike ad that showed joan benoit waking up to her alarm. she appeared not too thrilled about it. she got ready to run and went to open the door. it was pouring. less thrilled. she shut the door and grabbed a wind breaker and put it on. open door, off for a run. i liked that one.
so capitalism no longer should be respected in america?
Weldon, does this have anything to do with your MBA quest? Are you looking for ideas/opinions for some academic reason? Just curious.
No, apparently it's ethics and integrity that should no longer be respected in America.
well, what goes around, comes around. some of the "good" nike people got out when they saw what they were dealing with.
should an athlete not take a contract from nike when offered? do they compromise their integrity and ethics by doing so? do they have ethics and integrity if they take nike money?
It's dependant on that person's moral fiber.
The best lance armstrong ad was the one where he was like "everyone wants to know what im on, what am i on?? im on my bike busting my ass six hours day. What are you on?" That was one of the greatest comercials ever

YES. The problem is that not very many people have principles. And when it comes to money even fewer. If an athlete is offered $20K more from NIKE than anyone else, they will almost always take the additional dollars. However, Nike is far more likely to pull the plug for no reason. Then the athlete is shocked that the other $$$ are no longer available.
Agreed. I don't know how many different places I have seen that quote. Its a good one.
