A few years ago, I remember hearing Ain't No Sunshine in Notting Hill and I immediately fell in love with the soul in this song. Bill Withers is an absolutel...
Good for her. I checked the top 10 and didn't see any names that I recognize. I used to know most names in the running community from Edmonton, not so much anymore.
For a woman to run sub 3 hours is similar to a man running 2:45 or thereabouts.
It's a respectable time but not out of this world. Not elite. Like I said good for her.
I don't think it's an amazing accomplishment though.

Like I mentioned earlier you can have the best song to fit a genre, but there are how many genres? No way The Drifters can be compared to Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, you can't compare Bill Monroe and Bluegrass to Louis Armstrong and New Orleans Jazz, hell Heavy Metal and R&B? Metallica is not Wilson Pickett.
The education of the music lovers is at stake here, if all ya know is punk you will never get Hank Williams, if all you know is Sinatra you will never understand The Black Keys. You need variety.
I listen to everything but the Opera, yep that sucks, but there is something good in everything else. So am I in an old Alabama blues mood with Peanut the Kidnapper, Jaybird Coleman, Boweavil Jackson or some rockabilly with Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Ersel Hickey?
Hell, I feel some Tom Waits, Townes Van Zandt, JJ Cale and Calvin Russell coming on.
But if my favorite genre BY FAR is classic rock, it stands to reason that I would pick classic rock songs to be the best. I would say probably the 10,000th best classic rock song is better than the best country song...or something along those lines. Same with rap. Same with bluegrass. Bluegrass is nice to listen to as you walk by it...enough to get a sense of it and then keep on walking as it fades away.
I do appreciate different styles of blues, but my favorite ones are more rockin' blues from the likes of Jonny Lang and Walter Trout.

Wow, twice now I am agreeing with Flagpole, classic rock by the likes of Zepplin, Queen, etc. Recently I started exploring new genres and came across Dimash, check out this guys vocals:

Classic rock is cool but there is no way it is better than country at all.
And....
Jimmie Rodgers
The Carter Family
Roy Acuff
Ernest Tubb
Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys
Hank Williams
Patsy Cline
Johnny Cash
Merle Haggard
Waylon Jennings
Willie Nelson
Just as important if not more so than any classic rock band. Can say the same thing with them blues and early rock and roll. You simply grew up listening to classic rock not delving into the history the origins of it all, how it all evolved.

Well, music appreciation is subjective. I grant that you like that country stuff better than classic rock. I do not share in that opinion. That said, I DO appreciate talent at anything. Glen Campbell was an insane guitarist. Music from most of those people/acts for me would assist me in vomiting if I needed to expel something I ate.

Yeah, that's cool. I've seen that before. I can appreciate talent. Not all talent is something I want to watch or listen to frequently. Example: ice skating...they are talented. Just not interested in spending really any time watching it. Same with this singer guy. Great voice, but not something I want to listen to a lot of.
