I am losing respect for this clown. He was just a dude running for Keith and his brother, but then he tried to be something special and move up to the ultra ranks, and then act like some coaching genius, all the while pursuing his dream of being a world-class Ultra Runner, but he's turning into a nobody. His channel is going to go right up there with those stupid clowns the Athlete Special, Ben Barrows, and that fool Zach. When he does is next video I don't want to see him making any excuses because that is so lame. He should just say ,"hey I suck".
0/10. Too much hate. Not enough thought. Even lumping very different running channels together to try to make a point.

Man. Something isn't adding up for him. The blogs and his energy with what's perceived on social media will be a lesson in years to come. It's become too much. It's frustrating to watch, because it's just a product of the time and era we're in with sponsorships and trying to make a career of this, on top of pro athlete dreams.
He always has to address "hater" comments on his diet, that he will defend to no end. Something has to give though, is it diet? The thing when an athlete in any sport passes 30, and onwards, the body and recovery changes. What worked at 25, might not be the case at 33 trending towards 34. The human body is always evolving, like all things. He comes off as very difficult to work with due to his intellect, but more so because he even acknowledges, he was always hard to coach.
I mean, he raced Mount Blanc Marathon 3 weeks post Comrades? Dude..
He needs a reset, because he is still "young" enough, maybe a few months of seriously low key activity off the grid from all blogs and what not, idk. Wish him the best.
I wonder if he's getting enough protein???
I feel incredibly bad for Sage. He thrives on his contrived identity that running gives him. He is done as an athlete and has no way to ever receive attention again. This is why he now makes bold claims that he know he can't back up.
When he qualified for the Marathon trials in 2007 as a College kid he thought he would be one of the top marathoners in the U.S.
When he joined Hansons and improved his marathon time by 5 minutes in 3 years he thought that trajectory might continue forever.
When he decided that the Ultra world had no stars he could jump over there and still be a Marathon Trials qualifier forever.
When real runners like Walmsley was able to do all of the things that Sage couldn't it destroyed his world.
Sages entire identity is gone and he knows it. Really sad.
Well kick a man while he is down why don't you? Some of you never had bad races by the look of it. Reeks of jealousy..carry on losers
I've never joined in on the hate before but seriously it's not working.
Every time I watch a race recap video he says his legs were shot/dead very early into these long races. Says he should have tsken in more carbs. Ok guy that didnt screw your race if you never had a chance. Hes not a long-long distance guy. Even said in the comrades video his best race recently was a 15k he ran for giggles.
It's also frustrating that he ran more miles (and probably faster miles) DURING COLLEGE and every time he does a track workout he's sucking wind right away. That Boulder altitude isn't helping. Do a Boric Berian and move lower, start rocking tempos. Change something.
Racing two ultras three weeks apart is not the best idea. And when the first of these two was a real bad one, then it is just plain stupid. You need recovery and a new build up, half a year later you might think of serious ultra races again.

Ha Ha, it's just one lunatic posting to himself like a tool. Look at the time stamps. One at 10:08 and three at 10:13 etc all setting up each other and written in the same dumb, unhinged style.
I don't even know who Sage Canaday is and only clicked on the thread because it mentioned a "melt-down". After reading all of this idiot's transparently trolling posts, I can only conclude that Sage Canaday must have slept with his wife or something. Or perhaps eaten his pet vegetable.
Sage race comments reminds me of me when I was vegan. Even though I ran a lot, I found it hard to breathe during any harder efforts and my breathing and legs just felt totally off in races. Sage, it's not from a lack of carbs. That's part of your problem, man cannot live on bread alone. You need animal nutrition.

Oh gaawd, the insane anti-vegan /anti-Sage troll(s ... Probably one dude. How many of these posts made by YMMV? The biggest idiot on these boards) are out in force. Sad, pathetic, little haters.
Why on earth his veganism bothers them so much is hard to fathom. I guess they(he) has little else in his own life to care about. And no, A) I am not a vegan (not close), and b) I don't even care about Sage much one way or the other. But the hate trolls and hilariously uninformed nutrition clowns are what is grating.
As far needing MEAT to run well, Jim Walmsley has of course been dominating all other Ultra runners in epic fashion (especially the meat eaters), and he doesn't eat meat, and eats tons of bread, sugar, carbs. And of course all-time great ultra running God Yiannis Kouris ate a mainly vegetarian/vegan diet. And many many others have succeeded on these no-meat (or very little meat) diets (such as Scott Jurek, Rob Krar, and Killian Jornet). Owning the meat eaters. So....
y'all (I mean, the one or two sad little troll(s) posting over and over again under different names) lose. Again. And Again. And again.
Get a life and stop obsessing over Sage. It's pathetic and creepy. (and learn something about nutrition while you are at it. Meat is not close to being "necessary" for health or sports performance. Yes, it provides some good nutrients, but nothing you can't get from other non-meat foods)
Tyrone ReXXXing, I'm not trolling. All I'm saying is that I had similar experiences as what he is saying when I was vegan. Now I don't have those problems anymore since quitting Veganism. I'm just putting 2 and 2 together.
Tyrone ReXXXing=sage?
"Jim Walmsley has of course been dominating all other Ultra runners in epic fashion (especially the meat eaters), and he doesn't eat meat,"
Vegetarians can still eat eggs and dairy products, which have a lot of the nutrients missing on a vegan diet.
It's the nature of the social media landscape we live in..
When one makes brash, bold claims and refutes any acknowledgement from the other side ...this is what happens...not saying it's right, just what it is..
all those claiming his problem is diet, are ignorant of nutrition...do some research. The real problem is his lack of proper scheduling and trying to do too many races of varying terrain back to back. He needs to do a proper training block, rather than burning out by racing mountainous terrain a few weeks after being on the roads for comrades. Pick fewer races with which to peak throughout the year, with a minimum of 3 or 4 months between races. Better to win at 2 or 3 races than burn out at 6 or 7 races!

Show me just one tribe or civilization in human history that lived exclusively on plants?
Is it time for rojo to take over his training again? A rojo/JK trained Sage would be tough to beat.

Came here to post this.
YMMV the Lard Brain is attacking Sage under different handles.
You are pathetic, old man.

Look at his diet. Tons of pro-inflammatory carbs (Vegan Waffles? Seriously?). No wonder he can’t recover - his “Veganism” is a hoax - it’s really a Carb-filled aka pro-inflammatory diet masquerading around as “healthy Veganism”. Now you see why so many vegans decline - years and years of high carb/high inflammatory foods.
"high-inflammatory food"? Hahaha! (No, I´m not a vegan. I eat everything).
Some guy from the US Meat Counsel loves to hate on Sage.
Other than that, yes Sage needs to step away from being self coached. If it was anyone else he would’ve been fired by now.
