After seeing the replays, looks like USC has no one else to blame. Brutal way to lose--I wish we could've seen USC and Arkansas fighting it out. Arkansas had closed the gap tremendously, would've been a great finish.
clip of the kerfluffle:
The USC girl hit the South Carolina girl in front of her & tripped. no DQ's.
That’s heartbreaking for SC yet even without dropping the stick they may not have won given how fantastic AR ran.
Sprinting in traffic with that long loping stride of Cockrell's is what happened

Yup. from behind, USC's right foot clipped Carolina's left foot, and lost her baton .... then casually walked over to pick up the baton. C'mon girl, a little more hustle here.

You can hit hurdles in your own lanes, not hurdles in another lane.
ARTICLE 2. The referee, after consulting with the appropriate officials, shall disqualify a competitor who:

Hitting a hurdle outside your lane would require you to "advance or trail a leg or foot outside the hurdle width and below the top horizontal plane or plane extended of the hurdle".
As stated, it was a slight contact and did not impede the runner. I would assume that was the protest- denied, but still worth protesting.
I just watched the replay twice and I didn't see her hit a hurdle in the other lane. Which one do you claim she hit?
Does anyone know what happened to Pascoe of Florida on the last lap? She was at the back of the lead pack of 6 with a lap to go and had just split 77 and 76 but finished in 90! Did she get tripped? The TV camera never showed her on that lap after the first turn.
Florida would have been 5th if she stayed in 6th. Cost them a place.

that rule just says you have to go over a hurdle, note the emphasis on BELOW. It applies to people in 400h or outside lanes of 100/110h who can hook their leg around the hurdle instead of over it.
Nice try, but you are wrong and I am right.
You're both wrong.
You're wrong about the rule and he's wrong that Brown hit a hurdle in the other lane.
She didn't. That's why she didn't get DQd. She did keep her foot above the extended top plane of the hurdles.

USC has won it. Unless they false start the 200 or the 4x400 they will be your champs. Werner and Clark won't pick up enough points in the 5000 for the hogs. Maybe even no points.
Whoops.

not wrong about the rule. if you are not in an outside lane, you can only get DQ'd for fall start or interference. you do not gain a competitive advantage by going over someone else's hurdle. you can even hit that hurdle. you only gain an advantage if you impede that runner.
it literally happens all the time.

10.75 is not just the performance of the meet, it is up there for performance of the year so far, up there with Norman’s 400m
Her explosion from 5.7 into the race until 9.5 was amazing. You're right: one of the races of the year. The men's 110 H and women's 100 H were also highlights of the meet.
Forget that noise...What would Alabama have run if not impeded by USC? They ran 3:27.12 coming to complete stop...too bad for them. Their girls has a listed 53 split after all that trouble...unreal

Chadwick made an incredible adjustment to come out of that clean. She deserves a medal for thinking on her feet.

Not only did she adjust, her 400 split was the game-changer. Best 400 was 53.4 ... runs 51.6 to put them in contention. USC had a 1.7s lead on Arkansas after two legs, and Chadwick caught up, and was moving past regardless of the baton drop. Best 400 was 53.4 ... runs 51.6 to put them in contention.
