Gabe, thanks for living a life of passion, love, and inspiration.
Justin and Gabe’s family, I have no words: my heart breaks for you.

Well said. What a sad day this is.
So sad. I’m sorry. Too much spark, heart and energy to leave so soon.
In the photo of Gabe playing in the beach waves the cloud looks like a runner leaning for the win. ?
Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her loved ones.
I saw her train many times at UMN and around the local tracks. As many other say, she will be sorely missed and she will continue to inspire.
Some people are simply greater than others -- heroes. Gabe is clearly one of them.
It would be great to see Gabe's positive impact on everyone, and her heroism throughout, honored at the USATF Championships next month.
What if...at USAs next month, after the Women's 1500 Meter Final, all the competitors all join hands and walk off the track together -- just like they did to support the restoration of Gabe's championship in the 2014 USAs?
I can't add anything to Joseph McVeigh's sentiments.
Gabe is outstanding at being a fighter. The rest of us? Well, most of us don't do well in the aftermath of losing a fighter. My cousin, the only real athlete in the family as a Division 1 point guard (I don't view the Div. 1 track scholarships my brother and I earned as "real" athlete status), was struck by liver cancer, and after a mighty fight in which he stayed alive for his kids, succumbed to the disease. Us mere mortals have trouble dealing with the sadness and loss, and my heart goes out to Gabe' husband Justin and Gabe's family, as facing the sorrow is no easy task.
Damn. I've never met the Grunewalds, but I'm so sorry to hear this. Peace be with you all.
Same, don't know and never met them, but seem a really inspiring couple.
If love was all it took I'm sure she'd live forever. Thoughts and prayers to Gabe and her family
I'm thankful to Gabe for what she shared of her life, struggles, and outlook.
This world is better for her having been here. Let's hope that's true of the rest of us when we come to pass.
Gabe, you have been an inspiration to all of us!
"One of the main things that drives me to keep going and pursue my dreams, on and off the track, despite all the adversity, is just the belief that we have to fight for the things that make us feel alive, that make us feel like ourselves. Running is one of those things, for me, and as long as my body and health allow me to do it, I’m going to do what it takes to get back out there. I’m also motivated by the idea that maybe, just maybe, other people out there can see my fight and my positivity and be inspired to tackle the challenges in their own life." - Gabe Grunewald

Our deepest sympathies in this difficult time for you. You have shown great grace and courage
Why do you need to take am indirect shot at all of the athletes in this board who were division 1 in track and field? How was that necessary to your story? Gabe was an amazing athlete, and was no less of a division 1 athlete than anyone who plays a sport outside of track & field.
Prayers for Gabe, Justin, their family, and their close friends. What a tough cookie and an inspiration Gabe is. Justin, thank you for continuing to share her with us during this impossible time.
This story just breaks my heart. She tried so hard, worked so hard, and achieved so much. I will never quite square how unfair it all is. I'm healthy, I have had every advantage, and yet I've fallen short in so many ways, and as a runner, my achievements were nothing. I wish I could give her my health, so she could continue to do wonderful things with her talents. She deserves it more than I do, I feel. The world needs people like her, and I wish I could trade places.
As someone who just went through this exact situation with my 30 year old fiancée a few months ago I feel so terribly for her husband and family, that’s the sort of pain I don’t wish on my worst enemy. My thoughts and prayers are with them.
I am very sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and the Grunewalds during this tremendously difficult time.

Yahoo article has stated that Gabe passed away last night, based off of her brother's Instagram post. However, I feel as if the post doesn't actually clarify that to be true.

She is still alive. Someone screwed up. The title of the article has been changed
It now reads: "Pro Runner Gabriele Grunewald's Health Took A Turn For The Worst, According To Brother's Instagram"
Terrible, terrible reporting

It's Yahoo...what do you expect. This is a company that is basically worthless (actually they are worthless given how their parent company took a write off for the same amount that they purchased Yahoo for just 2 years earlier). Their "news" is just getting you to click into an "article" before having to click to another link that takes you to the actual article from the original source. Either that or the entire article is just a twitter conversation people had. My favorite though has to be the articles titled "This is the lowest price on Air Pods we've ever seen!" or "Amazon is having an amazing sale on Nike shoes" which in actually just an ad so when you click thru to Amazon, Yahoo gets a referral fee. To be fair, RunnersWorld(dot)com also does a lot of this now...making an ad look like an article and then every link goes to Amazon or another 3rd party. At least Yahoo tells you they get a portion of the sale.
Her husband just tweeted that she is very much still alive.
I'm appalled at the rush to declare her fight over. Someone updated her wikipedia that she passed away yesterday. It would seem much more respectful to allow this to play itself out and not have media outlets or wikipedia updaters rushing to "get it first."
I introduced her story to my uncle during the depths of his fight with cancer. He's been cancer free for 8 months and I know she was an inspiration to him last summer. Bought each of us a Brave Like Gabe shirt last night.
Sending my best vibes to a family I have never met, as they have definitely had a positive impact on mine and many others.
I hope she's reading this thread and laughing.
Even if there is little time left I like her attitude of how she is approaching it.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
