From this vantage point, if she were 18 it’d be easy to say a hard and fast “no,” but at 20 it’s viable for you to try to gauge whether she’s got the emotional maturity of a teen or a twenty-something (i.e. how hot is she?) There seems to be quite a range, although I reckon that’s true of all ages.

It’s also a plus that she’s asking you out and not the other way around. Nobody could accuse you of being predatory and it relieves you of some responsibility through the first couple of dates.

Im 34. If I were single and a 20 year old asked me out, I dont think I could do it. I could hook up with a 20 year old who knew nothing serious would come of it, but I couldn't date one, they're just in too much of a different place in life, hard to imagine a serious future.

I knew that word “predatory” would get a reaction from someone. What if it were a severely mentally handicapped 30 year old? Could it be perceived as predatory then? If there’s a clear rift in mental and emotional maturity, it’s predatory in the sense that you’re taking advantage of them and it’s your responsibility to know better. Don’t abuse power dynamics. That’s just part of being a decent human being.

Besides, not everyone forms their opinions based on the letter of the law, and it’s unrealistic not to consider what others might think. They won’t be able to call you a sex offender, sure, or a pervert, but many will consider it “questionable.”

For the record, I think he should totally consider it, but realize that some 20 year olds are still big kids.
