I'm not sure if I've ever seen a pro make up that much ground at the end of a 100. Does anyone remember a better alst 20 meters?

Coleman post race: "This is my first race for nine months. It is always a struggle to get in good form after such a long time away from competition, so I didn't have any specific expectations for today's race. In general I am fine with 9.86 today. It was very tight between Noah and me. I am training hard and preparing for the rest of this season. My next race is the 200m in Stockholm. I am looking forward to performing better there."

Lyles post-race: "I said to my coach in warm up "today is the day." I feel hot. I knew if I got out of the blocks and if I was anywhere close, I knew I could come late for the win. My next race is in Rome over the 200m. Those guys (the 200m athletes) have been having fun, but now it is my time to have some fun (over 200m)."

Reminds me of Frank Fredericks. Heck of a last 20 meters or so.

These "jog-and-kick" races are bad for the sport.

If Christian Coleman can look that bad the final 20m (and that seemed like a collapse) and still run a 9.86 in his first race back in 9 months, I’d say a 9.7 is a real possibility this season.

Hard to say if Carl Lewis slowed less than everyone else, or if he achieved a much higher top speed, and therefore slowed down from a faster point. Perhaps both are true??

If you throw out Ben Johnson due to steroids, you could make the case that Carl Lewis was the fastest man on earth from 1981-1991. I know he wasn’t necessarily ranked #1 every year but he was always there. But 10 years is an incredibly long time.

Honestly 9.6x is possible for him. He ran 9.7 something last season with a bunch of injuries, not a tailwind. He’s now got someone pushing him and a championship season. Lyles doesn’t have a good enough start just yet break 9.75 in my mind. He will run 19.4x, and Coleman will run 9.6x. This is if both stay healthy. Tokyo Games will be amazing if both try the 100, 200 double.
