Cool story bro. Here’s mine: I was at a track meet a couple weeks ago where all but one kid scratched out of the final heat of the JV 200. The one remaining kid still wanted to run, so the starter went through the whole spiel (including the bit about the false start DQ) and fired the gun for him just like normal. Despite being on his own, this kid appeared to be running his heart out. When all the teams and coaches and parents at the meet realized he was the only one in the race, they all started cheering and the place went crazy. It was great...this kid ran like 27 or 28 for the 200, but got the loudest and most enthusiastic applause of the night.
Maybe the US and Japan had a similar experience.
