He's visibly slowed, is talking, and definitely struggling. Calling it now, Jim doesn't make it. Yamauchi comes from behind and runs 6:11-6:12.

This coverage is excellent.
Does anybody know the names of the commentators?
Toni Reavis and Carrie Tollefson doing lead, Julie Benson & Eric Seisman (sp?) assisting.
Great coverage, but Toni just now announcing that Andrews had dropped?
Hideaki Yamauchi looks very comfortable.
The thing is that you have to pace yourself comfortable. Just going out at a crazy pace won't help you in the last third of a 100k.
What I really don't understand that Walmsley wanted to go for the 50 Mile and the 100k record at the same time. That doesn't make much sense. It's not like these are soft records by any means.
Can anyone imagine sitting around and talking about this crazy boring event for 6 hours! Kudos to them.

We refer to them as ‘cheaters shoes affectionately ‘ . I don’t know about Emma bates shoes. I have more problem with an athlete racing in a non commercially available shoe than a shoe like the vaporfly.
But that brings up a point. This carbon x is not commercially available yet and neither was the shoe kipchoge wore in London. The iaaf needs to enforce rule and make it so an athlete is not winning because they are running in a shoe no one else could have.
So you’re saying professionals shouldn’t have equipment made for them?
There is nothing stopping the other shoe companies from making similar shoes provided it doesnt infringe patent.
You don’t think professionals in other sports use non-commercially available equipment?

^This. Last time I watched, my local car salesmen didn´t have any formula one cars for sale.

same reason you have a 5k to go along with your marathon. for more participation, a couple gimme world records maybe. something else to talk about. also brings more people physically to the event which looks better on camera

I cant tell at all that he has slowed just by looking at him, still looks loose & bouncy to me. "Definitely struggling"? How do you know? Splits?

I thought it was Tyler going after the 50 mile record, not Walmsley.
This is so stupid and embarrassing to watch. There's nothing to be gained from walking/jogging/shuffling 100 damn kilometers. A silly contrived event for weirdos who can't hack marathon training.
37:10 last 10K (60 -70Km) for Jim so he is indeed slowing. Can he regroup and stay on track? He's at least a minute or two under record pace still.
The commentators said what I was going to, but he's currently at 6:01 pace per mile. Almost a 30 second slow down from roughly 14k ago, definitely is starting to struggle. If you watch his face, he's noticeably grimacing and saying things to someone. I'm not familiar with the way he races, but that's normally not a good sign.

He slowed to 6:01 pace on his latest split. Definitely slowing quite a bit.
The other runners are slowing as well though.
No, your post is stupid and embarrassing.
Go Jim!

He'll be walking soon of flat-out DNF.
Imagine how much better his life would be had he dedicated all his training to the marathon.

That is a bad analogy. In our sport sub-elites get to compete with elites. It is how one moves from sub-elite to elite in our sport. If elites are allowed to access to major advantages that sub-elites do not have access to then it widens the gap and could make it nearly impossible for sub-elites to become elites.
Wejo being interviewed now
wejo on the broadcast...WTF!
Yamauchi losing time to Jim in last 10K so neither are flying but still right on pace if not slightly under.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
