Hoka Carbon X project 100k WR Attempt Official Thread (Sponsored by HOKA ONE ONE)

who are the other athletes involved in the project?

HOKA ultrarunners Jim Walmsley, Patrick Reagan, Tyler Andrews and Mike Wardian, alongside reigning IAAF 100K World Champion Hideaki Yamauchi and fellow Japanese runner Yoshiki Takada, will attempt to better Nao Kazami's World Record of 6:09:14, set last year. HOKA athlete Sabrina Little, along with Aiko Kanematsu, will also race the 100K and chase the women's World Record of 6:33:11, set in 2000 by Tomoe Abe. HOKA athletes Sage Canaday, Tim Freriks, Sarah Bard and Jared Hazen will act as pacers during the record attempts.

Additionally, five teams of ten runners each will simultaneously participate in a 10x10K relay on the same course. A mix of HOKA athletes and athletes from select retail partners, these mixed-gender teams will also seek to break the 10x10K mixed-gender World Record.

Pat Reagan, Tyler Andrews, Hideaki Yamauchi and Yoshiki Takada for the men. Yamauchi has a PR of 6:18 in the 100k, which is about 9 minutes off the WR. Walmsley’s best is 7:05. Reagan has a 6:35 best in the 100k, so I think he’s got a chance also to run a fast time. Andrews has run 2:56 for the 50k, but I don’t believe he’s run a fast 100k.

Walmsley has the slowest 100k PR among the men, so I’m interested to see how he does.

For the woman, Sabrina Little and Aiko Kanematsu are running.

Tyler has run 2:46 on the track for 50k/April 2018

Wonder if there will be drug testing. Seems Tyler blows up at big events often and Jim is the blow up king when it comes to events with real drug testing. I.e. every world championship and major race he has done outside of WS

8.5 ounces for men's size 9 is too heavy to have 4% performance even with the carbon spring, part of where the vapors get the 4% is the 3 ounce weight savings, it's 1%+1%+1%+1%

I like the use of the word "mere" lol, 5-6 ounces would be "mere"

8.5 ounces is "yawn" in 2019, it's actually a full ounce heavier than the carbon rocket, lol

Hoka will be hosting a 100K race in Folsom, CA on Saturday to introduce their Carbon X shoe and to try to break the American/world records in the 100K. Will Jim Walmsley be able to break the current world record of 6:09, or will be blow up in (characteristically) spectacular fashion?

Literally 5 or 6 people on Earth have ever been "contenders" for the "best 100k runner". It's meaningless.
