We now have 3 guys under 2:03. Kipchoge, Kimmetto, and now Geremew.
Only if Geremew had ran that time last year, he could have had the world record until Kipchoge ran Berlin.
Kipchoge now has his complete set:
2:00:25
2:01:39
2:02:38
2:03:05
2:04:xx
2:05:xx
What's next for this guy?
Wish he would do a sub2 again! I am pretty sure if he ask Nike, they would do it. If Zersenay or Desisa ask, they probably say no.
His appearance fee I'm sure was great, but for that level performance, he got a meager $55,000 for the win, another $100K for under 2:05 (no further incentive for under 2:04), and 22K for the course record. As it stands, the two courses I'd like to see him run most (Boston and NYC) have the biggest payouts (save for Dubai, etc).
Would love to see Kipchoge do Boston, NYC, and Tokyo too! But Dubai has lowered their payments from $200k to $100k, so I don't think he has incentive to run Dubai.
Does Geremew also get a bonus for breaking the previous course record by Kipchoge (2:03:05?) But the new course record would have been his if Kipchoge didn't run it this year and went to do something else like breaking2, the year that Wanjiru won London since Kipchoge went to do something else. Course record is still Kipchoge now at 2:02:38.
