What percentage of married couples can pull off that feat? Obviously there's a few pro couples like the Halls and the Bruces, but if you had to put a number on the total, would it be more than 500 married couples?
According to the IAAF list 587 American woman ran sub 3 last year. So there are probably well less than 500 married couples that could do it in a given year.
There are WAY more women who can run sub 3.
1) IAAF doesn't track every single marathon.
2) There are many ultra runners who could easily sub 3 marathon, but it's too short for them.
3) Any serious D1/D2 and some of the best D3 runners can run sub 3, but don't run the distance.
4) Some of the best HS girls would be in shape to run sub 3, but don't run the distance. Tuohy could probably run 2:35-2:40 with a few weeks build-up. For sub 3 you could ask her to run that tomorrow, she would do it.
Tierney Wolfgram casually ran 2:40 at age 15, and by far wasn't the most talented HS runner at that age.
