No?? The website you posted states specifically that the Northeast is one of the problem areas. Actually, Lymn disease can be found in most of the United States but in a lot of areas (like the south) they are simply not very common. Here in Minnesota there are a lot of deer ticks (primary lymn carriers) but luckily they are mostly in the Eastern part of the state. I do lots of trail running and am constantly pulling ticks off me. But they are wood ticks mostly. Still, SOME deer ticks exist here also. OFF doesn't seem to discourage them that much but lucky for me they don't seem to like my taste very much and I have never had one digging it's way in. They just walk around until discovered and removed. Huggs Ticky Becky
Becky,
What area of MN are you from? I am in the Twin Cities for the summer and am trying to find trails to run on. What trails do you use?
I'm presently in the Central Part of the state about 120 miles from the Cities. The best places to run trails in Minnesota though are the marvelous State Parks. There are a number near the Minnesota area. One of them I would really recommend, not too far from the Cities is the AFTON State Park. (home to a great Ultra race every July...over now) Afton is beautiful and has miles and miles of trails and hills and trees (and lyme carrying deer ticks) and all that lovely stuff.
One warning about Minnesota. It's a wonderful place to run (When it's not 20 below in winter) but many paved paths seem to be called trails. TRAILS ARE NOT PAVED! (excuse my rant) But I'd try the state parks. Entry is something like $7 or 8 but an "annual pass" to any and all state parks costs only $25 and pays for itself by the 4th visit.
Where are you from? I'm getting out of here and moving to Las Vegas in August. Looking forward to having people to run with again (no groups out here in hunting and fishing land) I hate running intervals by myself and looking forward to the Las Vegas Track Club.
